Some recs!
It's a dark and stormy day. I was awakened twice: when the power came back and the smoke detector chirped, and when the wind was shaking so much it was making the walls tremble (and my bed, since it's against the wall). Very high wind makes me extremely nervous (which means I live in the wrong area, heh), so I'm blasting music and singing loudly and doing my best to ignore it.
Part of my "ignore it" strategy: post some recs! As always, this is a fraction of what I"ve been taking part in; the rest is on my Delicious. I'm in the process of updating it to include my fanvid bookmarks, and I'll be including fanart in the near future as well.
Stories
- Secret Life of Dolls: Paradise Lost by cleolinda: This goes outside the cut for a couple reasons. One, SLoD isn't a fanfic, necessarily, and two, I've said it before, but I never thought I'd be so invested in dolls! I'm going to be rereading the whole thing in the next couple of days, just because I'm due. (It's always good to reskim WIPs for reminders.)
-"Advisor to the King" by copperbadge, Merlin, Arthur/Merlin, Arthur/Merlin/Gwen: The main reason I keep watching the show is what kinds of fanworks come from it, and this is another example. (Although, to be fair, this season's actually been pretty good.) I love the thought of Arthur's promise being realized in a fully inclusive way, so it's probably the only fandom where I actually prefer optimistic stories to dark ones. (Although if anyone has dark fic recs? I'LL SO READ THEM OMG)
-" Disenchanted" by new_kate, Merlin, Elena/Vivian: Another reason I love Merlin is all the great femmeslash potential (I wrote Morgana/Morgause, after all) and the Arthurian characters to play with. What's great about this story is it took two potential partners of Arthur's - I wanted to say "former love interests", but that isn't really apt - and gave them a life all their own. Beautiful.
-" Didn't Dad Ever Tell You It Isn't Nice to Play With Your Food? and the rest of the Don't Talk to Strangers stories (see here) by leonidaslion, Supernatural, vampire!Dean: After 6x05, I needed vampire!Dean like I needed air to breathe. My searches were generally underwhelming - if it tells you anything, I reread what I have of "A Beast in Repose" just so I could get someone as a vampire, and I don't usually reread my own fic - until I found this series of fics. It's really really dark and screwed up, and I loved every second of it. They're basically the polar opposites of the above Merlin stories.

-" Believe" by giandujakiss, Supernatural, Sam/Dean: I usually think The Bravery's not really vid material - their lyrics are overly simplistic, although that's only one part of what works in music vidding - and ship vids so frequently end up flat, but this one's wonderful! I love the narrative constructed, and I'll admit, I rewatched it twice after I watched it for the first time. It's a couple years old, but so worth watching.
