Yay, indeed, for Reese finding and rescuing Finch!!!! It was pretty spooky with Finch being held captive by Root. What a delicious villain, yet in a much different way from Rumpel. Not that Rumpel is a complete villain which Root obviously is. Part of me wanted Root killed, but part of me is glad she got away because she adds so much intrigue. Not to mention we really don't know why she is the way she is. Hopefully we'll learn more in future eps. I also want to find out more about Finch and the machine. Like why he told the machine not to protect him. And what on earth happened to Nathan??

Root seriously creeps me out. And considering that Amy Acker usually plays sweet, nice girls, I'm impressed. I knew she wasn't going to kill him but she could have messed him up majorly. But it's fun to have a reoccurring villain I think! (and one that is not a serial killer - all procedurals seem to have a serial killer on the loose) I like her motivation (wanting to free the Machine) and now she will have more trouble getting close to them.

Perhaps Finch was afraid that if the Machine protected him that could be used as a way to get at it - a weak spot as it were.

I think they could have gone one more episode of trying to get Finch back but I'm still glad that Reese found him by the end of episode two. The tension was getting to me. :)

Actually, Root is a serial killer. She kills everyone who gets in her way. She wants to free the machine? What on earth could that possibly mean?

That could be!

She is definitely a murderer but it's not about choosing victims and killing people in creepy ways for her - it's about getting something else she wants or about a job. So for me at least she doesn't read as a serial killer!

And I have no idea what she means about freeing the machine but she talked about it a lot in the episode. Maybe just so it isn't working for the government anymore but instead doing whatever machine type things it wants to do.
