Yesterday's mini Thanksgiving dinner came out well! Everything was tasty and everything finished about the same time so it was all hot together. \o/ Chicklet looked over all the dishes on the table and pronounced it a feast. Jay wondered why I was going through all this trouble when actual Thanksgiving is next week and we'll have all this food ( Read more... )

I have to admit that I have never had green bean casserole! We always have our beans just steamed and tossed with butter and maybe some almonds.

WELL if you like green beans, obvi, and mushroom sauce and those little onion crisps, you might like these!
But fresh green beans with butter is delicious as well.

I do like casseroles with creamy sauces so I probably would enjoy this one as well. (Though I'd skip the mushrooms. Ick! *g* I think a basic cream sauce would do just fine.) We'll probably never have it for Thanksgiving in our family though since the menu is pretty well set at this point. Can't mess with tradition!

+1 for green bean casserole. It is legit the only time I like green beans.

I love green beans all the time so I have never had green bean casserole. *g* Also, it looks like it usually contains mushrooms, yes? If so I'd have to pass on it.

We use cream of mushroom soup, so to an extent, yep. I mean perhaps one could use a creamy substitute of some sort? I love the fried onion bits. Nom nom nom.

Oooh! The cranberries in Port wine sound yummy! I might have to try that just for Jay and I sometime soon.

I do love the Harvest Vegetables too even if they're not my focus on Thanksgiving itself. Acorn squash soup, roasted parsnips and carrots, sweet potato pie. Yum.

Yes! Post the recipe! I'll definitely make it, maybe closer to Christmas or over New Years.

Turkey turkey turkey turkey! I do love me some turkey. Gotsta have dressing too, as we call stuffing down here. For the first time in ages I'm not making my pumpkin pie this year, but I'll have to have some on Thanksgiving.

My mom said she wanted to do something different for the stuffing and I got all upset. *g* I can never make it just like hers.

I've never been a fan of pumpkin pie (though I love sweet potato pie) so mom always makes one for herself since it's not right to her if we don't have one. I make apple, chocolate, and another that changes each year depending on my mood.

Ooh, sounds delicious! Especially that gravy.

As for the poll...definitely cranberry sauce. It's the only way I'll eat turkey. :)

Cranberry sauce and turkey do seem made for each other! We've tried various recipes over the years and always come back the one on the bag of cranberries -- water, sugar, cranberries. Though we do add a little salt to up the flavor.
