So few series are allowed to end on their own terms in the US that we don't actually have any writers that know how. I can't think of a single American TV show that ended well, or at least satisfyingly.
I was just thinking that (I think tomorrow's entry is for "best series finale" so it was on my mind). It's just not something that American shows do really almost ever. I agree, American writers, as a result, generally don't know how.
My answer for the "best finale" is, of course, a British show. All my favourite US shows ended lamely and about 2 seasons too late.
Did you ever watch Space Above and Beyond? It only had one series, but they knew they would not be extended for another season so they went out with a bang. Still my favorite U.S. series. The only one I bought on DVD :)
I don't know what I'm going to pick for best finale! It's hard to think of any that I even liked though most of them at least did not make me retroactively grumpy about everything that came before.
I felt like it was the biggest cop out ever. It ruined the whole show for me... I actually had a bad feeling the moment Starbuck came back. It gave me that Narnia feeling...
Definitely the one that disappointed me most as well.
I was happy that Starbuck came back, but then they explained too much while also just waving their hands and saying 'God did it.' as though that was going to be a good way to wrap things up. They had so many missed opportunities in those last episodes that it is obvious that they had really lost the thread of the show.
I hope that with time I can come to terms with the finale and rediscover my love for the show (and there was a lot to love even in the last episodes), but it's going to take a while. Awww! *hugs* I hope so too.
