No One Wants The SciFi Geeks

By now you've probably heard the the Scifi channel is changing its name. (if you haven't they are changing it to SyFy...I know...WTF) I've read a few articles on the change, but this has got to be my favorite -- SciFi Channel Changes to 'Syfy' -- Insults Entire Audience in the Process. Here are a few quotes from it:

It's not unusual for TV ( Read more... )

TV execs worry me. When all those mad suggestions for eleven were going around I was going, yeah I get that rusty likes to mess with us, but don't give the Beeb execs ideas!

Yeah, it's never good when execs get involved and these are dumber than usual.

Last year when I first started watching Who on Sci Fi, I was quickly able to discern that the network is run by idiots. Putting their two most popular shows on a Friday night when no one is home is dumb. And no one there seemed to understand Doctor Who at all from the way they promoted it, scheduled it and repeatedly ran trailers spoiling cliffhangers. I will never understand why the put Who on either side of BSG. Way to guarentee that no actual children will ever watch it and way to confuse the hell out of people tuning in for BSG (I've talked to so many people who seemed to be under the impression that Who is supposed to be like BSG in tone and was just failing miserably at achieving it).

Oh, I hate their trailers and promos! *stabs* I've been avoiding all BSG promos since we were spoiled for major plot points last year. When we get to the end of BSG, Jay starts yelling for me to shut it off quickly just in case.

I don't think that they get that Doctor Who is aimed to a general audience (has anyone there ever even watched the show??). As far as they're concerned it's a science fiction series, so stick it with BSG.

I did not know that, but I do know that SciFi was one big cluster**** of promoting/butchering/spoilering DW.

At least for now I don't have a reason to watch that channel.

With DW, the butchering is what gets to me! I'm very happy that I'm not dependent of their versions of episodes. My husband is a very casual fan, so he's fine with what they show until we see the DVDs but I find it annoying that he misses so much.

exactly, but the ironic thing is, my mom's the casual fan and puts up with my dad and I obsessing over the show, and when she notices differences from the SciFi version to the BBCA version to the DVD, that tells you something.

They've always been idiots, ever since they canceled Farscape, and made comments about Firefly being "too sci fi" when they were approached about taking it on. They seem to be ashamed of the genre they are supposed to be about

The canceling of Farscape was one of the most stupid things that they did. I'm not sure why they started a science fiction network if they had no respect for the genre.

Sci-Fi channel...oh they piss me off. As everyone else has spoken of in the past and mentioned here, they killed DW many times, just cut chunks of important plot points out!

And their programming confuses me. It is rare that I find anything watchable on that channel. I do like Ghost Hunters, and if I'm very lucky I'll catch re-runs of Star Trek TNG on there. But why don't they have more Twilight Zone time slots? Or start airing the vintage Sci-Fi, like the original BSG?

And what's up with them remarking about Moonlight? Vampires, okay sure fall into that sub catagory of paranormal...then why do they have Ghost Hunters? That's nothing but paranormal. Then they turn around and put freaknig wrestle mania on...what the hell does that have to do with Sci-Fi?

*fumes* Sorry for bitching....they irk me.

EWWWWEEEE I could have gone the rest of my life not knowing about Indiana Jones...that's just so wrong. I can't wait to pass on the information to the Geeks tomorrow.

No need to be sorry! They irk me too! We now know the reason that they don't have more scifi programming. Because all such fans are dysfunctional, antisocial boys in their basements. Idiots.

It is very difficult for me to watch the cut-up versions not only because they are butchered but because Jay doesn't want to hear my complaints. *g*

Sorry! I just had to share the Lucas ick! It's better to be washing my brain with others than alone.

I feel like we should start some kind of Chicks Like Sci-Fi protest. Oh they suck.

I have trouble even watching them at my dad's when he's watching BBC America, they do the same damn thing...

Not to worry, I love it when you share! *smiles happily*
