No clue if you guys have seen this yet, but: A 70 minute(!) review of Star Wars Episode I: Phantom Menace

Ostensibly, it's a lengthy review of where Episode I went (completely) off the rails, but in reality it's an in-depth discussion of how to create a narrative structure, not just in a film, but in any sort of story-telling venture, as well as ( Read more... )

this was great. jason and i thank you for sharing it. i've recently been contimplating re-watching The Phantom Menace, since I have trouble remembering what the heck the pathetic attempt at a plot was even trying to do. turns out, its even worse than what i remembered. the best part was the behind the scenes footage and everyone just looking depressed at how awful it turned out.

i trust you have heard this : At Midnight I will Kill George Lucas With A Shovel

Y'know, I never really minded Phantom Menace before I watched this, but then the combination of logic and hilarity got to me.

Attack of the Clones is on TV right now. It is so bad I can hardly stand it. However, it is even more awful when I think about how it is an improvement over Episode I.

I actually think Attack of the Clones is worse, because on top of a nonsensical plot, it also has a horribly acted romantic subplot. Revenge of the Sith is best, if only because it has a fairly simple plot, and lots of Palpatine, who I like, and the final fight between Obi-Wan and Anakin, which is the ONLY MEANINGFUL LIGHTSABER DUEL in the whole series of prequels.

On the plus side, whereas they showed the prequels over and over yesterday, today they're showing just the original trilogy! YAY!
