I want a stupid free train car

So, I'm finally back home in wonderful Baltimore ... well, my wonderful apartment occupied by my wonderful girlfriend in somewhat less than wonderful overall Baltimore. The very first thing that happens when I get home? The cats start fighting with each other. Loudly and violently. Renee swears they haven't been doing this the whole time I was gone ( Read more... )

travel, shut the fuck up, die already, too stupid to live, things that make my brain bleed, rant, people suck, urge to kill rising, assholes, misanthropy, stupidity, everything sucks, fail, stupid people

I do think it would make the customer service world a better place, you can't pay me enough to stand there and put up with some asshole yelling at me just because he can. I tend to think it would probably be a relatively popular change, or at least I'd like to think that the people trapped in line behind the moron having a meltdown because they can't get exactly what they want, especially if their demands are unreasonable, and becoming abusive with someone who really isn't responsible just obeying the rules, I'd like to think they want that person told off, too.

It could always be worse. I was talking to a friend of mine a while back, she's a lot older than me and worked in retail back when the customer is always right meant if the customer wants to throw something at your head, they are right and you need to apologize for making them get that angry. O.o

Yep, you couldn't pay me enough to be polite to someone that is being abusive to me (one of the reasons I left my former job).

It gets worse in areas with money too, where so many people already think they are better than anyone working retail and the sun should rise and set around what they want. That's the kind of area I came from.

It did suck, but at least the people working for Amtrak actually care, instead of just throwing their hands up in the air and letting people do whatever they want. That happens way too often.

Oh yeah, the brief time I was in retail it was the same thing, and I was there shortly after the institutional unpleasantness, so the effect was that much worse. I can't work in that sort of job, either I will explode or implode and stress will eat me up, either scenario not good ( ... )

I like the new name. Are you going to stick with this one for a while? I'm thinking of maybe just calling you Chrion on the blogroll.

Ha ha, sorry I suppose I didn't realize that my need to change things up every now and then makes it difficult for people linking to here.

Yes, it will probably stay the way it is for now (since its also the title of my wordpress blog).

There's a quiet car on the Amtrak train? On *all* trains? I had no idea. Whenever we get on a train, they tell us something like "cars 5, 6 or 7" so I didn't know there was a choice about stuff like that.

Fortunately, we haven't had too many bad experiences with the other passengers on Amtrak. Much more on Greyhound. We were just on trains this weekend, going back and forth to Portland, and it wasn't too bad. On the way down, there were a couple people that were a bit too loud on their cell phones, but that's it. I will say that from what I've experienced so far, it seems to be better out here in Pacific Northwest than it was in big cities in the Northeast, as far as loud, rude, obnoxious people go. Not that we don't have our share, but it does seem less overwhelming, overall.

Next time, let the conductor know you support him in his job. It helps those people to hear it. Hermes can work through you in that way, too. Let the person who sees to your travels know they are appreciated and loved for their work.
