I learned over the weekend that there is now apparently an National Train Day, or at least the very first one took place this year and I presume they intend to do this every year from now on. Celebration of National Train Day includes, among other things, special discounts on train

I still have never taken a long-distance scenic train ride.

I don't think I'd want to take a very long trip on a train if it could be avoided (and can't always, since I don't fly). I like to be able to stop for a while, get out and stretch my legs, rather than be trapped in a box for hours at a time. Especially when the box is full of screaming children, as is wont to happen.

I would like to be able to drive aimlessly around the country some day (not that gas prices now would allow for that, but we can dream :-))
