Now I actually have to learn and research some facts about my own country, and reflect on the culture. All of a sudden I got two "gigs" coming up where I have to talk about Taiwan. One is being part of a one-day workshop that introduces culture and Taiwan to a Danish family that is moving there to live and work, and the other one is a guest ( Read more... )

i'm not sure i qualify as an herb gardening expert... in fact, i'm sure i don't, as i've never grown herbs. but i have grown many other things. and generally i think that the key is not to over-water. i think over-watering is the underlying cause of many a brown thumb. of course, i don't grow herbs. but my mom does (in the ground, not in pots) and i don't think that she waters them that much. so that's my 2 cents.

and here's a third shiny penny... i think that particularly the mint should be pretty neglectable. mom's mint grows like the most vigorous of weeds. it would easily overrun the rest of the garden if she didn't keep it in check. so, if you want to start the "water less" plan with caution, maybe start with the mint. i think it's particularly tough.

and a fourth cent... *composted* manure is the best fertilizer there is. if you can find some, your plants will love you. but don't use fresh manure, as it will stink up your house and burn the roots of your plants. ;)
