There was no broken glass. There was never any broken glass because they never threw things. Ryoma sulked and glared but he’d had a lifetime’s experience in dealing with his father. Fuji only hardened his gaze and set razors behind his words. They walked a fine line between being polite and outright vicious when they fought. No one else managed it quite like the two of them.
There was never any yelling either. Tense silence had become a close companion of theirs during these bitter periods of time. A carefully shut door, deliberately not slammed. The scrape of a chair against the floor as it was shoved back too roughly, the only sound besides the murmurs of voices outside, a busy city muffled by seventeen floors and glass doors.
“You shouldn’t love me if you don’t know how.”
“Don’t expect me to learn if you don’t teach me.”
“I thought you were smart enough to learn on your own.”
“I’m not the prodigy.”
“Just his lover. If that.”
Sometimes Ryoma thought he’d prefer the broken glass and the yells.
