Anti-childfree charities

I'm sure you've encountered them before. March of Dimes, WIC (Women Infants and Children), "Save the Children", "Make a Wish" foundation. WIC in particular I've even seen them put up huge booths in public buildings like libraries, explaining how they'll help you out if you want to make a child. Does anyone know any dirt on these organizations? I ( Read more... )

As I understand it, WIC is there to help new moms and their infant keep their health (milk and stuff like that while the mother is recovering, baby food, etc). I mean, as much as I generally dislike children and irresponsible breeders, it's not like I want the child to suffer because its parent was unprepared or unsuited.

The way I see it your tax dollars may go towards it, but you don't have to make additional donations every time you see a booth or any other such fundraiser. I think everyone has something their taxes go to that really pisses them off. That's just life.

WIC does serve a somewhat useful purpose. Even I can tell how much nicer it is that all my friends don't have family bugging them for money all day, on account of already being able to pay for all that baby food via WIC. (Incidentally most infant formula is horrible for babies... Nestle are evil!!) I just don't think it's wise to assume that such a program serves a useful purpose, or even that it's effective in doing so. Enough money in WIC is spent on programs designed to prevent women from having an abortion that I have to question whether something a bit more practical and less childealistic would be better than WIC. Regardless I'd rather they call it the "DPF" or "Deadbeat Parent Fund."

The one person I know who receives WIC works 6 days a week. How does that fit the definition of "deadbeat"?

I'd always heard vague notions about the corruption in that charity. Now, I'm just flat out disgusted.

I probably should have emphasized this. As questionable a practice is, as solving the problem of crop failure only by giving children food, claiming to do so and then not actually feeding the children at all is beyond intolerable. I was asking about the more morally gray area in which it is actually making babies smile, but not helping the situation. When it isn't making babies smile and isn't helping the situation, it's pretty black and white at that point, and by black and white I mean pitch black.

Just because a charity doesn't directly help you, doesn't make it anti-childfree.

Heck, I get support from some disability charities in the UK (thank you Access To Work for forking out £1,200 for the chair in my office :) ) but not others, but I am not quite so paranoid as to think they are out to get me.

There are charities that DO offend me - pro-life and anti-gay ones mostly, because their OBJECTIVE is to strip away the rights of others, and that doesn't help anybody.

But kid's charities? I just don't donate to them myself. If others chose to then hey, their choice.

"March of Dimes,"

march of slime!

"WIC (Women Infants and Children)"

three things, and I don't like TWO of em!

"Save the Children",

ABORT THE CHILDREN!

"Make a Wish" foundation.

MY WISH is to have a CF City.

"WIC in particular I've even seen them put up huge booths in public buildings like libraries, explaining how they'll help you out if you want to make a child."

And yet NO ONE will help me build my Evil Robot Army to take over the world! pfft!

"I understand children are a horrible pain"

TRUE!

" and extremely difficult to care for"

True! AND THEY SMELL!

"Are those charities actually good in that they undo some of the damage that all the bad parents cause? "

I dunno how they CAN unless they take away the kids form the SHITTY BREEDERS and give those kids to GOOD parents.

"Is helping children the best way to solve the problems that children face, or can you provide a more complex explanation for what's going on?"

Hell if I know!
