Hey guys... well, i finally got a puppy last week.. thanks to everyone who helped me chose the right breeder. I have a question though.. i brought him home last friday and he went for his third shots today.. he got distemper and bortadella vaccines. He is 12 weeks old. oh my buddy is an absolute beauty. may I ask though, why is he in a cardboard box lol. You need to call your vet and ask if vomiting is normal, my dog has never vomited from the shots but they have both vomited before, and I freaked out and it was for nothing. Has he had any runny poo's? Does he seem tired or lethargic? I would wrap him in a nice comfy blanket, keep him close to you so you can keep a good eye on him, and if he throws up more than 3 or 4 times, call an emergency vet and ask what they suggest. Keep him hydrated and take away his food. If you are going to feed him, you need to feed him a bland diet consisting of rice, chicken(obv not fried or anything, simple cooked chicken)..and im sure a lot of other people a lot more knowledgable than me will add to the whole bland diet list because im a bit rusty on what exact food qualifies. I hope he feels better :(

The pic of him in the box was taken the night i drove him home from the breeder.. That is what i brought him home in and was the only thing i had for a bed for him that first night.. now he is in a kennel that i think may be way too big for him.. i may return it tomorrow.
I will call the vet tomorrow morning. As for now, the dry heaving has stopped.. he is his normal self,, normal poo, normal behavior and what not.. he heaved two times.
I will do the bland diet you talked about.. do you think he will eat straight up cooked rice?
Thanks for the help

Could the dry heaving be a reverse sneeze? That's something that my boy Rusty does that really scared me the first time--it sounds like they're having trouble breathing, or like their throat it closing up, it's almost a honking noise. Very hard to explain until you've heard it. If it is that, it's totally normal. Also, Bordatella is "kennel cough" and after my old boss' golden retriever got her shot for it, she start coughing/hacking a lot. Not sure if this helps at all, but maybe some things to ask your vet?

Buddy is ADORABLE, I just love his coloring. Aren't chis just the cutest little things?

Thanks for the info.. im pretty sure it was dry heaving b/c when he opened his mouth to heave,, i heard a swooshing sound that sounded like water splashing around in his stomach or something.
They are the cutest! And all my friends are asking me "why did you get a chihuahua?" Not a hard question to answer :)

i have heard of this before. however, it could also be an allergic reaction to the shot. my parent's miniature pinshcer was really sick with the distempter shot. is his stomach swollen and hard? if so, that could me more of a problem..could be bloat..which is more serious. but if his stomach is not swollen, ignore that one. i am just trying to think of all the things that cause dogs to dry heave. i say if it goes on into today..then call the vet.

I personally would call or go go to the ER vet and ask. I've never heard of dry heaving for this long, and with the shots and everything else, can't be too careful especially at this age.
