I've been both of those. Too much information is better. I say that because being open is the only way to be open. It sounds simplistic and probably more than a little bit trite, but it's basically impossible to connect with another person in any meaningful way if you aren't being your honest self. This is the caveat, though - you don't have to tell everything. You're allowed to keep things to yourself or to skew certain information a little. I have all these overachiever unbelievably smart friends and I remember that I felt so inferior when we got our SAT scores back. I earned an impressive score by, like, statistical averages but it was still much lower compared to them (and my prodigal brother) . But my therapist said "Then lie." It was maybe the biggest revelation I made with her. It's okay to keep details to yourself. So while you have to be whatever person you are, there will always be a bit of balancing to do. Be honest but in an honest way. Does that make sense
