The latest Folio Society mailing includes sets of works by Dickens and Hemingway. I would have to work hard to find two authors that lemur_catta and I dislike as much. Hardy perhaps

Heh, I know. I just put the Dickens stuff straight in the recycling pile. I decided against getting anything from that mailing, not least because I'm still being tempted by the letterpress Shakespeare. They look absolutely beautiful.

I'm with you on Hardy. Never tried Hemingway and holding judgement on Dickens - I rather loved Tale of Two Cities but have never actually managed to finish any of the others that I've attempted.
Admittedly I wouldn't class them as high literature but I remember gobbling them up as a teenager. Though to be fair I don't think I've attempted them again as an adult - maybe I'd have a different impression now. I shall re-read one and get back to you!
