I am so stupid. Immediately after clicking I realised that I have eaten several different sorts of seaweed, from Japanese varieties to laverbread. Sorry.
It is quite possible that I've eaten donkey, but I suspect I'd never know for sure. (Time spent in pre-re-unification/glasnost Eastern Europe being served some distinctly non-specific 'meat', at least some of which was recognisable to me as horse from other experiences, although I didn't enlighten my somewhat squeamish companions at the time...)
Apparently, mortadella ("bologna"? and hence "baloney" in the US, I belive - could be wrong) is traditionally made with donkey rather than pork in Italy. This could be a myth (in which case, disregard my submission for donkey!)
I don't think "traditionally" is the right word. I do know that donkey meat has wound up in fairly low grade mortadella but the references to it that I have come across were in the context of post WW2 food shortages.
