Dog groomer recommendations? (far north side)

Feb 07, 2009 08:53

Can anyone recommend a groomer who will clip a dog's claws in a room/alcove away from other clients? Hoping for referrals in the Rogers Park/Edgewater/Evanston/Wilmette/Skokie areas ( Read more... )

There's a grooming place on Jarvis called "Rogers Bark". I'm not sure if they'd do it in another room for you, but you can call up and check. It seems like a nice little dog grooming place.

I was coming in to recommend Rogers Bark, if it was still open. My old friend Charlie started that place years ago, and sold it to another old friend Susie, who just has a wonderful relationship with animals. I lost touch with both of them, so don't know who owns the place now. If it's still Susie, she's great!

Thank you! I stopped by there this afternoon to ask if they could handle him, and they said it was no problem, a lot of shelter dogs have the same issue, and they will clip him out of sight of other dogs. So me and Farley will be going there Thursday evening!

The best thing you can do is learn to trim your dog's nails yourself. If your vet has the balls to charge you exorbitantly for something as simple as that, they should teach you how next time you bring him in. If your dog doesn't have black claws, it's super easy because you can see the quick. Cut below that. If he does have black claws, just be careful and don't cut off too much at one time. If you do it regularly the quick will stay back naturally. Buy a jar of Quickstop from your local pet shop, and if they bleed you stick it in the claw and it'll safely stop it up. You can also use flour or cornstarch in a pinch. You'll save money and won't have to worry about doggie reactiveness. :)

...and, after reading the extra text, I realize you just said you didn't want to. Oops. Sorry!

No problem! I know it's simple, but between my inexperience and arthritic hands, it was not a good experience for my dog. After three times I've decided to let the pros do it!
