I decided a few weeks ago to get into earring-making. It's a HELLuva lot faster than knitting, and it's stuff that I really need (I have very few earrings at the moment). Earrings cost a lot for no good reason; I have sensitive ears, and so need sterling silver or gold studs or hooks, and very few places have earrings like that that are not ugly/ ( Read more... )

Yeah, semi-precious gemstone beads + Union Square prices = X_X I'm looking around for a shop that's cheaper, Beads of Paradise has a lot of unique stuff but they're ridiculous.

Goodness, those are quite beautiful.

In terms of finding less expensive mats... perhaps buying secondhand jewelry at flea markets/pawn shops is a good idea? The secondary market in NYC has got to be *huge*...
