Dammit LiveJournal!

Jan 11, 2013 23:00

As of now, I'm a member of Dreamwidth! I'll still be posting on here, I guess - all of LiveJournal's recent douchebaggery is still, apparently, not enough to drive me away for good. I hate the new friends' list though, and I really don't like how they've decided to get rid of paid accounts (didn't know about it? Apparently they only decided to ( Read more... )

So many LJers are moving to DW now. I can't say I'm surprised - LJ is immensely frustrating these days, especially considering that most of the time it's not actually working at all.
I'll add you on FB if I may? :)

You can find me on FB here, I think :)

I can't help but feel that LJ is being slowly shifted to appeal to a different demographic, to be honest. Like they're trying to turn the site into some freaky hybrid of Facebook and Tumblr. I mean, I use and like (ish) both sites, but LiveJournal feels more like home to me. Tumblr and Facebook are both full of drama, and on Facebook I couldn't post half of the stuff I do on here. I'll stay with LJ and still check and comment on here, but DW will be a backup in case all of my entries get eaten or something. You never know!

Added you :)

Yeah, it does seem to be going that way. I don't really like how they've changed the look of everything either. I know what you mean, though: I've been on LJ for nearly ten years (eep) and it's weird to think of not using it at all. I like Tumblr but it definitely is very drama-filled, and also you can only post to either everyone or no one - there's no in between.

I know what you mean about drama. The other day I logged in to Tumblr at like 5am because I couldn't sleep, the first post was a massive long and rather petty argument between a bunch of social justice bloggers that someone had reblogged and I just shut my laptop and went back to bed. I don't think I've ever been done with Tumblr so early :P

Added ye back!

they said they weren't getting rid of paid accounts, just changing how they function or something. i haven't seen the ads since i use ad blocker plus for Firefox, but you're not the first to complain.

I'm darkspirited1 At dw too, so I'll add you when I'm on a computer and not my phone. also, you can put lj layouts on dw, though they'd prefer you use theirs. i have a link to it that might be in my memories. you can look it up though too

I've considered adblocker, but I'm wondering if the big gaps between my entries, where ads would normally be, would stay there? I guess adblocker is worth it at least to stop the buggers from slowing my laptop down :P

So if they aren't getting rid of paid accounts, I'm guessing they're hoping more people will buy paid to get rid of the ads or something? I'm only assuming that there will still be no adverts on paid journals...

Thanks for the heads up on LJ/DW layouts, by the way; I'll see about getting this one on there some time :) Finding good looking floral backgrounds that tile well is most certainly NOT a skill of mine. :P
