Notes: I can't believe my first Heroes published fic is Claire/Simone - I don't even like those two characters - but I hope it's at least halfway decent. I'm not sure if I've characterized Claire well, please tell me if you have the time - I love constructive criticism (and feedback, of course).

When Mohinder finds out about Eden's death, Simone ends up with the assignment of figuring out if they can make justice or benefit from it in a way that doesn't tell their secret to the world and, more specifically, to the Department of Justice. It's not that she wants to, but she has had to deal with a lot of legal issues in her career, and, unfortunately, Peter is aware of that.

"We can probably take some advantage of this," Nathan comments. At the sight of Peter's You can't say that here face, he adds, "Just so her death won't be in vain. I mean, she killed herself to help us."

"We don't know that she killed herself," Simone says, and everyone looks at her. She's not much of a joiner in these meetings; she feels a bit like an outsider and spends most of the time in Peter's kitchen, making tea and cookies and waffles when Claire Bennet's there.

"Exactly," Nathan answers, and mouths What? at Peter's reprimanding eyes.

"It is not such a bad idea." Mohinder leaves his cup of tea on the coffee table. "Someone should check some law books to see if we can at least make her suicide worth."

"Simone knows a lot about that," Peter says, and looking at Simone, "and she has time, right?" Nathan laughs. "What?"

"Nothing," Nathan replies, fixing his tie.

"I don't know th-," Simone starts, but Mohinder interrupts her.

"Can you do it?"

And so the matter gets settled.

Simone really didn't want to get involved in this supermadness, but she has given up avoiding it, as it has proved to be absolutely useless, especially having a boyfriend like Peter Petrelli.

She goes to the library with Claire, who has to do something for class and spends most of the way saying how much she misses Odessa, even though Simone knows she's happy to be in New York, and complaining about having to go to school here, even though Simone wishes she could do the same thing and forget about this whole world-saving mess for a few hours every day.

They sit in a table next to a big window, books that look like a report on the evolution of paper covering the table. Claire bends her knees and holds herself on them to be able to lean over the table and check Simone's research instead of doing her own. Claire thinks that she's being unfairly treated like a child and should be assigned an important part in the investigation.

"Everyone thinks it's better if you finish at least high school, in case you survive this craziness and have to work afterwards," Simone whispers.

"But I am the one who should choose what's best for me," Claire says, leaning over a book concerning suicide. "Besides, you don't think so, do you?" Claire is serious and curious and Simone feels sad that someone so young is a part of all this.

"I know it's the best thing. Sit properly."

Claire attacks Peter's bottles cupboard over a meeting in the weekend. Peter's really permissive with her, and he lets her drink a glass of vodka, and another one, and by the time Simone notices that a minor is drinking alcohol and asks Peter "How many has she had?" Peter has lost the count and Claire has lost the ability to keep one.

"Oh, fuck," Simone murmurs, and looks up from behind her curls before standing up and going to the kitchen, where she feels less of an intruder.

Claire follows her there.

"See, I'm old enough to dr-," and she hiccups, "drink."

"You really are." Simone opens a cupboard and finds various boxes of different sleeping pills that Peter uses a lot lately before reaching the flour.

"What are you doing? Can I help?"

"Cookies, and no. Go to sleep before you embarrass yourself."

"You treat me like an adult and like a child at the same time. You have to choose," Claire states.

"Go to sleep. I think Peter won't tonight, you can take his bed." Claire doesn't move. "Come with me," and Simone accompanies her to Peter's bedroom. When they get there, Claire closes the door and kisses her. When she moves away, Simone walks towards the bed and undoes it. "Come on, go to sleep before you do something you'll regret in the morning."

Claire throws herself onto the bed, takes her shoes off and lies down.

Simone waits for her to close her eyes before going away.
