Up until Shuuhei announced that he was coming over after his declaration of un-love, Izuru had been keeping himself quiet company in his room. The posts on the network had been the last thing he had done before some journaling, but as the last hour had been devoted to responding to concerned friends and acceptances of his invitation to drinking (really, when had they become so reliant on the communicators?), he hadn't thought much of changing clothes in the case someone decided to visit. And then Shuuhei did. With only a few minutes' notice, Izuru had time only to straighten his yukata and throw on a light over-robe before the knock on his door came.

Taking a breath, he slid the door opened and tried--really tried--to give Shuuhei as warm a smile as possible. It fell short, and he finally settled for the half-hearted smile that came. "You really didn't have to come, Hisagi..." He murmured and stepped aside for his friend to come in. Izuru knew he was well-known for his melancholic moods--and he had been getting better about them, ( ... )

It was just like Izuru to hide himself in his room when he was feeling down, but then again, it was also a case of the pot calling the kettle black. The difference between them was Shuuhei bounced back a lot quicker than Izuru ever did, and Shuuhei often just buried himself in his work to compensate, while Izuru tended to brood. Brooding usually made things worse. He just hoped he got there soon enough ( ... )

Watching as Shuuhei retrieved two cups and made himself comfortable by the futon, Izuru crossed over to a nearby cupboard and pulled out a cushion. Setting it neatly on the floor where Shuuhei was looking to sit, he settled onto his futon and frowned. After a moment of deliberation, he sighed out and shook his head.

"I suppose it comes down to a few things... Hinamori-kun and I haven't actually had much in terms of a conversation since that fight we had before you and I were even promoted... Just after the taishu." He sighed and pushed his hair out of his face. "I guess... between that, and the debacle back in November and... from that point on... It's given me time to think things over. Even if she's... back to normal, so to speak, I don't think..." Izuru shook his head, trying to reorganize his thoughts. It was so hard to give shape to the way he was feeling ( ... )

Shuuhei had been so far off in his own world dealing with his own Division, he was embarrassed to admit he had not noticed the growing divide between Izuru and Momo at all. It had been wonderfully awkward that one meeting they had, and Momo had never been very trust-worthy after that, but beyond her genera health, Shuuhei had been rather neglectful. He knew he should have been keeping up with his friends' lives more often, but lately he had been so bogged down with his own work, he just spent each day hoping he could finish the reports in time. Still, that was not an excuse for ignorance ( ... )

When the cup was offered to him, Izuru took it without question, listening as Shuuhei spoke and then finally swallowing the sharp liquor in the cup before speaking himself. Shuuhei's attempts at a smile weren't for naught, but it was hard for Izuru for form anything that looked more like a smile and less like a grimace. He settled for a neutral expression and shrugged. "It can't be for anyone else, can it?" Even though he said it, he knew it wasn't a total truth. He had done so much up until that point for Momo's sake... Now, to be doing something for his own sake... it was difficult. He had been in love with Momo for so long that the realization that perhaps he didn't anymore had hit him like a blow to the gut. It was as he said, just time.

"I wish I could say that it would be easier on me in the long run." Now he did manage a wry smile. "And I guess it will be. I just... It's been so long that I've been... you know. I almost don't know how not to be, but that's no reason to keep holding onto things." Izuru took a shaking breath and ( ... )
