He actually jumped a bit when Matsumoto-fukutaichou burst through the door. At least he managed not to drip any ink on his reports, though; re-doing them would have been a pain. More field work also meant more paperwork, which meant that keeping it orderly was even more important.

Rai set his brush aside and lifted a questioning eyebrow. He knew that kind of cheerful look. He got that one, too. The bright smile that hid the plotting mind. No good could come from this, but it wasn't like he could go ahead and ignore a superior officer.

"You, of all people, are asking for a progress report, Vice-Captain?" He couldn't help the laugh that escaped him. Oh, the irony. Idly, he rested one elbow on his desk and set his chin on his open palm, a smile still spread across his lips. "Probably going better for me than it is for you, considering I actually get things done."

That cheery smile slipped for no more than a second before she breezed up to Okada's desk, bending over just enough to reach perfect boob height. She had these things calculated, pity the poor soul who ever thought otherwise. "Not anymore, you're not," she intoned sweetly, picking up the reports and placing them to the side of Okada's desk. "I've got a much more interesting task set aside for you!"

He wouldn't put it past her to have these things calculated -- he poked at her laziness, not her intellect -- but that didn't mean that her actions had no effect. It wasn't like he was made of stone, or anything.

"You . . . what?" The words in combination with the view did terrible things with his mind. That Matsumoto-fukutaichou moved his reports didn't even register.

Rai snapped himself back into reality with some effort and shook his head before finally looking her in the eye. She didn't mean that. She hated his guts. Clearly, she was just doing this to mess with his mind, and for the record, it was working.

"I mean . . . what is it that you want me to do?" His voice was half-strained, half-suspicious. He didn't want anything like what happened a few months ago to happen again. He needed to be on his guard.

A girl had to learn a thing or two after dealing with Ichimaru Gin for so long, and how to mess with a person's head was the first lesson she got.

"You, Okada, are going to help me prepare exactly what this division needs to make our officers more efficient and alert for whatever comes our way!" She spoke the assurance with unnecessary pomp and flourish. Raising a finger in front of her, she winked. "The annual Tenth Division block party!"

Involuntarily, he blinked at her. The what? They'd never officially had anything like that before, not even when Shiba-taichou had been in charge. Their share of weirdness, of course, but never specifically this ( ... )

"Of course," was her easy answer, spoken as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "Everything has to start somewhere. And what Taichou doesn't know won't hurt him." A thoughtful pause. "Today."

His suspicion was well-founded and completely justified. Matsumoto found it incredibly tedious. It was difficult to tell whether she was of the mind that everyone else in the world could remain as alert as she could when drenched in alcohol or whether she knew exactly how much it affected everyone else and reveled in that knowledge endlessly. The latter was the more likely of the two.

"You're in your office working diligently right this very moment, aren't you? You're just the sort of person who needs this the most! So you should have the privelege of being a part of the planning committee!"
