What I Saw: Rectify

Apr 26, 2013 14:32

Rectify is a Sundance Channel television series of one season and six episodes that is currently running on Monday nights. I have, through the magic of the Internets, seen all six episodes. I don't know if they will be making anymore.

His best friend was a young man who had been convicted of murdering a three year old girl.

Salt of the Earth kinda men friend, I see.

As he explains slowly, very slowly, Daniel seems to have lost the process of talking and thinking at the same time,

Is that what it is? I tried to watch a scene from one of the episodes and it was so sloooow. I had to turn it.

The series as it stands is good but as frayed as a linen cross stitch cloth's hem

You should be punching up their scripts.

Great review. I like one of the actors in it Clayne Crawford, so I intend to give it a real chance. My problem is that the footage is so grainy. It's like they took the digitial footage and rubbed it against rocks.

I was going to make a joke about how long it takes to dry sea water to make epicure French sea salt and the slowness of the show, but... I won't. I will just step away from that ( ... )

. Sundance should hire a new Spider for that Web. And some new little Writer Flies to struggle and gasp for help and give out better information as their little wings shred from their terrorized contortions to free themselves. Writers...eyeroll

It's Sundance, what do you expect? They're probably all out drinking their microwbrews discussing the lates Richard Linklater film in their Uggs.

The "hero" of Rectify is a man named Daniel Holden

Hero in quotes is right. "Hi, my name is Daniel Holden and boy, do I lack impulse control."

This friend liked to remind Daniel of his criminal and moral culpability as a voice through the air vent. He was sort of like Daniel's very unpleasant conscious or the God of the Old Testament who liked the Ugly Things in Life.

I'm glad they had that voice because the other only voice of dissent really was Ted Jr and he could be viewed as unreliable in intent and thought because of an inherent bias against Daniel. Whereas another prisoner can see behind the b.s.

but I am still not sure how his lawyer, ( ... )

So true, perhaps Daniel did do it? I'm not totally sold on the possibility that Daniel was unfairly imprisoned. This show is leaving that out there for at least now.

And there is the girl's brother who is sure of Daniel's guilt.

As the old Southern Saying goes, "People in hell want a drink of ice water." And people in prison are all innocent ( ... )

Part 2... dawnybee May 12 2013, 21:42:00 UTC
One commits suicide and the another hides his body.

Why he doesn't just let the body be found and let people believe that the dead one was the guilty party is beyond me. Unless Daniel knows the real truth and could implicate the one who hid the body. He really has it out for Daniel and that means, I guess that Daniel was the patsy and is guilty.

In Daniel's familyI don't think anyone is dealing with the reality of who Daniel is and what he went through. The mother keeps him at arms length as if he's still on Death Row and she'll lose him at any second. Amantha (her mom ouldn't decide between Amanda or Samantha?) thinks that just because he's out of jail everything will be hunky-dory. In between "consulting" with the lawyer she should be getting Daniel into therapy or some post-prison service to reintroduce him into society. Tawney is looking at him as a replacement for Ted Jr; someone who could relate to her spiritual journey only to find out that's not the case. They act as if the battle is trying to change their community's ( ... )

Yes!!! This was so puzzling. What does he care?

Earlier with the dead guy, they talked about what they testified to and it wasn't the murder of the girl. According to them, they just saw her walk off with Daniel. So if there is another trial, what will their testimony mean? It doesn't sound very vital or that they would change it. Why would the guy kill himself over it? Why would the other guy care? He just keeps saying that he will say what he said before.

The dead one did act guilty of something. Why make his body disappear?

And when Amantha and the lawyer were out in the swimming hole/creek area talking after seeing the dead girl's brother in that Florida bar. I kept expecting them to find the body, but they didn't.

They act as if the battle is trying to change their community's view on Daniel rather than having Daniel deal and cope with his new reality post-prison.
It is as if Daniel has been gone so long, that ( ... )
