Writing!

So I'm actually getting to my writing again in earnest, and that makes me happy. I am not writing every day, but at least once a week. I barely wrote a word in 2010 that wasn't an angst ridden post of my private life. There were lots of those, but they are set to "Just Me" to save my friends from the emo ( Read more... )

There's absolutely nothing wrong with preferring short stories (says the kid who still has yet to get a novel draft to a submission-ready stage). Harlan Ellison is world-famous, and it's his short fiction that gets the acclaim. If you're not planning to earn your primary income from writing, short fiction is very satisfying.

If you haven't already done so, sign up for a Duotrope account and make sure those pieces stay out on submit. When they come back (and even stories that eventually win Hugos and Nebulas come back), get them back out again. I love Duotrope not only because it helps me find new markets to send my stories to, but more importantly it helps me find new short story venues to read!
