How to save the world

It's been busy lately, so no much time for LJ-socialising. But this is now my last week at work before my four week vacation. Yay! Apart from my previously mentioned trip to London and the south of Sweden, I'm also going to Finland. Good stuff.

I have finally had time to see all of Torchwood ( Spoilers! )

recs, torchwood

I am relieved to read your review of Torchwood. You're the only other person besides myself that thought Season 3 was amazing. It made me laugh, squeal like a fangirl, cry, cry some more, and just absolutely break my heart to the point that I had to marathon romantic comedies for the remainder of the evening.

But to move people so much is a sign of damn good TV! So yes, there was noticably more 'flaws of government' than Torchwood itself -- but that was sort of always the series IMO. Having its darkly funny and exciting fangirl moments, but also smacking you up the head with some deep underlying message about humanity as well.

I think, mostly, people forgot it is NOT an American television series so the flawed hero(s) remains flawed hero(s) in the end. I learnt this lesson very well from previous BBC series.

Anyway, yes. I kind of liked the ending. And I still love Jack... even if there is no more Ianto (we were so suckered into a cryfest by his adorable obsession with 'couple' in the first episode).

Oh yeah? I haven't really read any reactions, since I'm so far behind and I didn't want to get spoiled.

I've always been a big fan of British television and here in Sweden it's always been a big influence and very popular (until recent years, where US TV has dominated). And one of the reasons is definitely what you mention: the flawed heroes. It's much more daring and much more interesting that way. Even though it was horribly sad, I liked that this series was so dark and so lacking in a happy ending for our characters. It'll be interesting to see what it does to our dear Captain and if it means completely withdrawing from human contact.

I just wish he still had Ianto! :(

Yeah, I got some angry responses from a few 'friends' on LJ when I said, "When we found out he had a grandson, did you actually think that revelation was going to turn into something GOOD?"

That's what youtube is for. Finding comfort in the Jack/Ianto videos. :)

I don't even think like that, I just roll with the punches. But I wouldn't have expected such a cruel turn of events, if I'd thought about it, that's for sure. But it seemed like his only choice, and the price they all had to pay for the failures of the government.
