"Presumably this idea evolved into the Star Trek: The Beginning concept, which now appears dead in the water"

If you follow the link to the further article that comes right after the sentance you quoted, it describes exactly what concept it is that "appears dead in the water". Specifically, a prequel Trilogy involving Capt. Kirk's dad. My reading (admitedly, its poor and confusing journalistic copy) is that this new concept ("JJ Abrams does the young James Kirk chronicles") currently has the greenlight, cementing the already widely held opinion that the old concept ("watch Kirk's dad be even more of problem than his son was") was never going to happen.

in other news, what do you think: mogg fanatic or kird ape?

also, how do you feel about the baloth vs ascetic decision?

I lean towards Kird Ape, because I enjoy Zoo (i.e. cheap-ass Italian) more than I do goblins, which Fanatic will strengthen in Extended.

I voted Ascetic. It's a better card (not by a lot, but by some amount), and some people say it's too annoying to play against but I'm honestly not concerned as long as Wrath is in the environment.

Mostly, though, I'm impressed that these are largely votes where I'm happy with either choice. I wanted Plate to win over Hammer though.

"Card" was the only indication I had that you might be talking about Magic: The Gathering.

Good job.

Is there something I'm missing about the Plate? It seemed like a slam dunk for the Hammer to me.

You can't fool me, nobody wrote The Island.

They just took Parts: The Clonus Horror and edited in Ewan MacGregor.

I will admit that I have not actually, technically, seen The Island, but as with Crossroads (everyone's favorite "get America ready for Britney to 'lose' her virginity" vehicle) the hour I spent having it described in intricate detail by Casey makes me feel like I've seen it. So I can safely say that you forgot to mention that they also edited in stock footage of Steve Buscemi as "crazy guy who talks shit about God."
