in other news, what do you think: mogg fanatic or kird ape?

also, how do you feel about the baloth vs ascetic decision?

I lean towards Kird Ape, because I enjoy Zoo (i.e. cheap-ass Italian) more than I do goblins, which Fanatic will strengthen in Extended.

I voted Ascetic. It's a better card (not by a lot, but by some amount), and some people say it's too annoying to play against but I'm honestly not concerned as long as Wrath is in the environment.

Mostly, though, I'm impressed that these are largely votes where I'm happy with either choice. I wanted Plate to win over Hammer though.

"Card" was the only indication I had that you might be talking about Magic: The Gathering.

Good job.

Is there something I'm missing about the Plate? It seemed like a slam dunk for the Hammer to me.

1. Y'all are still following the development of MTG? Wow.

2. The Hammer is better for raw power, but at the elite toolbox level of play, the Plate's has more potential for abuse, given the right other cards to mix with it. Whether that would have happened, who knows.

We actually still play regularly in Hadley house. Ross is big into Magic and the last block they did is awesome.

Re: Kelly, Hammer's obviously more of a limited bomb but I agree that Plate had more overall potential. Hammer is really never good enough for constructed because in the end you're paying 6 mana for +3 power when you could have used that mana to play, I dunno, two Moldervine Cloaks or something. Plate only costs 4 from hand to creature and can be very difficult to deal with for many decks if it's online on turn 3. It never did much in Mirrodin block, but it had the world's most artifact destruction and broke-ass Ravager Affinity to deal with then. In a different environment, I think it could be strong as an aggro-control card for a color with evasion.

Yeah, I just was surprised you're keeping up with the never ending changes and updates.

Bah, that doesn't mean anything. I am too, but I gave up on keeping up with MTG when they introduced abilities that were strictly better than previous sets and a hundred new confusing mechanics. Hence my surprise.

I'm a baloth man, myself.

Also, while I really like Kird Ape, I think I have to support fanatic on this because he has a lot more potential to slow down the game, which is something I will almost always support.

After posting, I changed my mind and decided to vote Fanatic for various reasons, but what makes you think he slows down the game at all? 95% of the time he's been played in aggro-heavy RDW variants.

I can see the arguments for Baloth, I guess, but I just like the Troll a lot. Why do you prefer it?

See, I would take issue with your %. It might be true that 95% of the total number of decks he appears in are RDW, but that is just because there are so fucking many copies of that deck in existance. And while Fanatic is an incredibly solid card for the deck, it is not the reason the deck is so fast. Meanwhile, pretty much any other deck that plays red and intends to win through damage has an excellent reason to play fanatic. It serves as great spot removal for pesky early creatures (like ravager ( ... )

It's true about the need to enchant/equip the troll. He'd actually be better if Plate had been voted in, since we don't know of any particularly good cards in either category that will be in when he's reprinted.

Anyway, yeah, I have decided to vote in Fanatic, and I'm sure he'll win easily anyway, so.
