This is why I love fanfiction. This exactly. In fact, I'd be shocked if this hasn't been dealt with more than once already.

And maybe it would be better for society if we told more of those sorts of stories. Maybe the writer who's been there and knows how Rapunzel needs to adapt, can show you how to adapt.

(Or maybe you are that writer, a few years in advance of the fic actually being written.)

This is SO true... I'm a residential therapist for youth, and I say this to my co-workers all the time. "We can't let them listen to rap music..." WHY. Why the hell not? When they get out, they're going to have access to guns and drugs and the crappy neighborhood they grew up in; no wonder most of them are back in the system a few weeks later! The least we can do is let them listen to rap music while they're in placement, and lessen the culture shock a little. You ago ahead and listen to Kanye and Chris Brown, little Billy, and play Grand Theft Auto. And we're gonna talk about what the rappers are saying, and how you relate to it, and what skills can be taken from Grand Theft Auto and applied in real life (very few, but I can stretch).

I think you might be surprised about GTA. I've never played GTA, but I've watched people play on Youtube, and like all video games, it forces you to think and plan ahead, especially the newer games where you're planning complicated heists. The games are so very unrealistic when it comes to crime that you honestly wouldn't learn much about crime from them, but you do learn a bit about organization and planning. It's also pretty relaxing for a kid who's had a hard day ( ... )

I'm okay. I'm having some trouble with executive function issues, but I have some people coming to my apartment to help me with them now. I've been thinking about a lot of things I'd like to blog about, but it's hard to figure out how to get started. It's really frustrating. But yeah, I'm still alive. Don't worry.
