Our upstairs refrigerator has not been dirty since it started malfunctioning almost two years ago. It is amazing how much stuff you pitch in order to avoid carrying it up and down the stairs!!

Every week to week and a half, we dutifully shut the upstairs refrigerator off for 24 hours, schlep everything downstairs to the fridge in the basement, then perform the reverse when it's time to refill the upstairs one. It's terrific exercise and, as a bonus, the fridge is never full of leftovers or grubby stuff.

The downside, of course, is that we can never actually FILL the fridge upstairs, cuz it wouldn't all fit in the one downstairs (not with all that beer). Oh, and the sheer amount of effort involved in all that schlepping.

You have my deepest condolences, though... before the meltdown, ours hadn't been cleaned in about six to eight months. That's more than enough time for all manner of odd stuff to accumulate! Ewwwwwwwwwwww!

lol Beer takes up a lot of fridge room :D

I hate cleaning the refrigerator out and generally put it off until some catastrophe necessitates it. I swear that I will change my ways and haven't yet, so I think this will just be that one icky thing that I learn to live with.

I hate cleaning refrigerators, but it has to be done.

It was bad. But honestly, it's been worse ;P

They make self-cleaning ovens...why not self-cleaning refrigerators?

Yay for clean fridges! That calls for a glass of wine! :)

Yay! It sparkles. And doesn't smell.

Yes, the wine will be lovely once I'm done drinking tea and getting my ducks in a row.

Next time you're cleaning the fridge, just remember that you could be cleaning the anal impaction of a guinea pig... something that has become a regular chore now that my pigs are older adults. :)

D: Having to do gross stuff for the animals is different--it's for their health and not because I'm lazy...but wow. Poor bb. I can't even imagine how they must wiggle and squirm and squeak.

Bingo's actually pretty cool about it now. I think in some ways he understands he'll feel better if he just sits still.

Can you recommend a wine?

Poor little dude. We had a dog that had the anal gland problem. Not fun for anyone.

My favorite box right now is Bota Pinot Grigio. If you like red, their Old Vine Zinfandel is good. Here it's about $22 for 4 bottles worth, and it tastes way better than $6/bottle wine. The Bota and Black Box we buy are comparable to $12-$15/bottle quality.

Pretentious wine snobs may snub it, but in reality there's nothing wrong with boxed wine. Not only is it good wine, but it can stay fresh up to a month because air can't get to it.

...he thought the problem would magically go away...

...I heard him shouting unhappy shouts. I called down a "What?" and he made loud, indistinct mad/sad noises.

LMFAO! This would happen here also, though I'd get up and help him because I would never set my temp. to 58 degrees, you crazy woman!

Both my fridges are easy, so I clean them out often.

Enjoy the sparkle! :)

Box wine is not bad at all and it's just getting better. I prefer white generally and some of the red varieties we've tried I don't care for, but for the most part they are comparable to much pricier bottles. If we are doing a dinner and the wine pairing is important, we will spend some time picking out a decent bottle.

Well, I have since been corrected--he didn't magically think it would go away--he thought it was a one time thing, like the spout-dealie had been bumped or whatever. He was not impressed by the 'my husband is not awesome all the time' tag.

I am a miser! I turn the heat way down at night and when no one is home. Yes, crazy...but I hate seeing the gas bills in the stratosphere.

Ah, no worries. Assure him I have erased the erroneous information from my memory. ;)

You must be a hard-core miser! You're also a cold baby, so I am very impressed by your sacrifice, lol!

It's important for him to retain Awesome Stasis.

This is why I don't care for winter. It's cold, and the way to not be cold is to send lots of money to Louisville Gas and Electric. I wear sweaters and drink a lot of hot tea and we use space heaters judiciously.
