Day Seventeen: Culmination

Sep 24, 2003 08:40

Although the workweek is not yet over, I'll spend this entry telling stories about yesterday because, well, yesterday was eventful.

Okay, they're really just boring work stories. Go visit one of my earlier journal entries, maybe the one where I contemplated the value of pie.

Great story! I now understand why you haven't come home! (well you know what i mean) lol! Great job averting what could potentially become wars...

I can't believe you hung out with the president of Afganistan (I would have had to ask him if he had a spare afgan)...and COLIN POWELL!!! I love him! So, ya bringin his daughter home for dinner or what?

Colin Powell Rules chaosvizier September 24 2003, 13:14:51 UTC
Powell's the greatest.

Back in the olden days, before he was Secretary of State, he came to the UN for some consultations on Iraq, after the first Iraq war. We knew he was there, but we weren't involved in his programme. So, sometime mid-afternoon, while we're just working quietly, this guy walks into our office and starts looking out the window, searching for something. I notice this guy, but don't really pay too much attention until someone else looks and says, "Is that Colin Powell?" So we're all subtly checking this person out, because he looks like Colin Powell, but there's no reason for him to be there at all. So finally Marybeth goes up and asks, "Excuse me, but are you Colin Powell?" He is indeed! He's cool, happy to shake our hands and meet us, and explains that he's lost his motorcade. So we use our vast resources and connections to find his cars and get them to the right place, escort him down, and see a grateful General on his way.

It's hard to say if it's all worth the chaos of 17 straight days... but it's not bad. At least it was just Powell's daughter and not one of the Bush daughters. Heh. Then I'd really have gotten shot.

Wouldn't you recognize the Bush twins from their looks and the ability to double fist martinis?

Actually, I never went contemplating the value of pie. Unless you go forward to my 21 October post. I just wanted to link to the pie movie.
