Fun With Cooking

What, you say? How can I possibly write a post entitled "Fun With Cooking"?

Well, in all fairness, you do have a point. My cooking skills are legendary, and not in the good way. The kitchen is not my domain. And I did once set Spaghetti-O's on fire. Not one of my finer moments, indeed. However, when serving as an assistant to someone more trained ( Read more... )

The original instructions said "approximately 40 min at 400 deg", but what they did was about 35 min at 350 and then another 5 or so at 450 to speed things up. 40 at 400 was good; the other method might make crispier bacon, which has its own pluses.

The best part is, the pork stays juicy, because the bacon wraps keep all the juicy goodness in. So you don't have to worry too much about the pork drying out, as long as you have a good tight layer of bacon.

We were truly "LOL DUMBASSES". It was an epic failure. But I got a good strong workout out of it, so I suppose I can't complain...

I can't say that the piggy looks appetizing, but he is pretty cute. And the spatzle bit was hilarious. I just abducted a pasta press from my parents' house. If there's a non-tremendomeatatarian version of that part maybe I'll give it a go sometime.

So for Danish Christmas, we always have this special rice pudding (made with whipped cream, how can you go wrong??) with an almond hidden in it. If you get the almond, you win a prize. For some unknown reason the prize is often a piggy made from marzipan. This year I got to make the piggy, so I made a big pig and a bunch of piglets. Is there any kind of German tradition like this? Crazy Danes. Maybe next time you can make baby pigs too with different kinds of bacon and filling...

Ok, granted, this was not a very vegetarian meal. Well, once you took the pig out, it was actually quite veggie-friendly, since spaetzle is just dough and creme brulee is just awesome.

I do know about the pudding with the hidden almond. We don't do it at home, but I remember in Germany some people did that. We need more fun stuff like that here. Well, I guess there's King Cake, which is a Mardi Gras (?) tradition. Same idea, pertty much.

Of course, my problem was, i don't like Marzipan. Heh.

awwww look at the little piggy!

So cutesy-wutesy!

and when followed up by a creme brulee (do-it-yourself dessert kit, includes blowtorch; how can you go wrong?)

I think you'd be surprised what could go wrong when you give a blow torch to people

Just remember: Blowtorches don't kill people; people with blowtorches and lots of inflammables kill people. WHEEEEEEE!

you don't really need inflammables, just the blow torch will do, it just takes longer.

True, you don't need the inflammables. But sometimes you really have to burn a lot of jerks really fast. Then it helps. ;-)
