18 January 2010- I build up certain outfits from the accessories. I know it is strange to start with the peripherals and details, but when one has got a statement necklace or ring, it seems perfectly logical to work backwards:
torsade necklace /tôr-säd' 'ne-kləs/ n. a romanticised incarnation of the ordinary rope braid, to be looped around the neck. Such a simple concept of creation means it is easily replicable with your own individual necklaces. So taking a mixed chain knotted necklace (first picture) and my mum's string of stone beads,
I braid and entwine the two together to create my chunky torsade necklace.
sea shell ring /sē'shěl' rĭng/ n. the organic fashion movement, gracefully encapsulated. This ring was made by drilling a hole through an authentic Vase sea shell. I was smitten enough to purchase it in spite of its perceived fragility. Notice one side of the shell crown is only held up by a narrow piece of shell:
In actual fact, my ring has thus far withstood several knocks, although one cannot be too sure... Despite always reminding myself to be careful while wearing this ring, accidents do happen.
Ironically, this gift from Mother Nature resembles a flower more than its true colours, the sea shell. Nevertheless its arresting beauty invited friends to come closer, and the story behind the ring always makes for a good conversation starter.
古狮门环 /gǔ shī mén huán/ n. ancient guardian of Chinese palaces, to ward off evil spirits from my hand in the present day. Mrs Legoman is quietly lifting the latch; she is pushing open the door to... where?
wood watch /wŏŏd wŏch/ n. the wrist watch, redefined as a functional bracelet. The chunky width and solid bold hue serves as a striking contrast against messy prints and patterns:
off the beaten path /ôf th ē bēt'n pāth/ phr. the Rustic Beach hideaway, embodied in a single outfit. Although the unusual hem of the blouse is the first thing to grab one's attention, how it has been accessorised is just as much, if not more, important.
