Variation on the Cocktail Dress

20 March 2008- Two Januaries ago, I bought myself an evening cocktail dress. The price was good, the details unique (then), and I reasoned that a woman could never have too many little black dresses. Fast forward a year later, and no reasonably special occasions had come my way (or if they did, I did not attend them). My mother began to refer to my dress as an equivalent of the white elephant. I felt too, that it was such a waste for a pretty, flattering dress to grow sadly accustomed to life in a dark, overcrowded wardrobe, squeezed amidst other pieces of clothing like sardines, the only glimmer of life bursting upon them when daylight flushed in as the doors were thrown open. Yet, how many ways could one incorporate an evening cocktail number into an everyday wardrobe? I once attempted to wear mine as a high waisted skirt (link here). Fortunately enough Miu Miu comes save the day with its spring 2008 rtw collection, bringing with it inspiration aplenty. I had found an answer to my question: layer the cocktail dress over a sleeveless, collared blouse. It is a smart trick for achieving a matured, sophisticated, yet very wearable look.

I have somehow fallen in love with toe cleavage.
Yes, you heard me right, toe cleavage; the lines between
toes that stick out beyond the opening of low-cut shoes.
Say what you like, I find it sexy.

Edmund has caught me readjusting the position of my bag for another picture. My hands are worth a laugh :)
My face in the last two pictures reminds me of my dear friend Angela.
It's the soft gentle expression, just the face in general... I feel like I am Angela's sister. Lala, are you reading this? :)

Closeup shot of my accessories, pleats on the blouse, paperbag waist of dress, and eh, mole on the chin :X Throughout the day I was told I looked like a kinky french maid (thanksss, hot date...), an opera singer (lovely comment from a lovely person :) ), and a Manga character (I suppose he meant Lolita).

My ribbon necklace was put together from a lovely black ribbon with a gorgeous rose print, a safety pin because I wanted to leave my options open (the ribbon is too exquisite to be wasted as a necklace only for the rest of its life), as well as a classy creme camellia brooch from my mother, which was fastened to the ribbon in the middle. The silver chain was procured from another necklace.

This is the pretty black bow - that which hot date calls "spiderweb" - I wore in my hair. It is made of suede and slopes down from the center towards the edges: an exquisite detail, surely. Although in general I prefer to let my hair down (you seldom see me otherwise, unless the sun is baking hot), I was won over by the necessity of having to pin up my hair as a finishing touch to some outfits I badly wanted to wear to school. Of course it helps that dear Edmund likes my hair pulled back from my face as well.

Army Boot Camp

6 March 2008- Street in Hong Kong, a shop I recognise by sight and location but not by name. enter the shop and like madcap aunties, browse through racks and boxes of clothes strewn about like rags. Ah, what a strange looking dress, I must have it. Hand in hand with boots it shall go, up and down the slopes of NTU to the green, green grass of home :D

We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine...
The dress is short and baggy, it made my friend Xing Juan scream out in horror (ok, not quite).
Prof C stared at me as I walked out of class in it, another tutor murmured as I glided past, "Interesting dress..."
