I really wasn't thinking clearly when I booked my vacation. Now that I'm closing in on trip time, I'm panicky. My brother hasn't said he would take Fergus and Néstlé for me

I wouldn't be comfortable with someone in my home. Heck I don't invite people into my home when I'm here, it'd be worse when I'm not here. :)
