:-P

I haven't bought any Christmas presents yet, due to an unfortunate collision of client bouncy cheque and dead washing machine. I can see I shall be trailing round Plymouth on Christmas Eve. :-(

Polo, on the other hand has done most of his already. Drat him for his regular monthly salaried smugitude!

I tend to collect presents for people through the year, but that's mainly because Christmas is never far from my mind. I've done fairly well this year considering our lack of money, as the big Co-op is shutting and so has loads of stuff at less than half price. I know going round on Christmas Eve isn't fun, but all the sales will probably have started by then, so if you can bear the crush you'll probably get bargains.

I fully sympathise with the not getting a regular wage, that was the bit I hated most about being self-employed :-(

Actually, now I think about it we did buy some presents in Istanbul, so I'm not totally behind myself.

I am hopeful for Christmas eve sales now!

I used to love Christmas. I used to go into town just before Christmas and just listen to the carols, look at the lights, and watch all these people hurrying around, busy buying things for others. "How lovely it all is!" I thought, thinking happy, fuzzy thoughts.

Then I went to work in a public library, and I saw endless droves of enormously stressed-out mothers. "Oh no! Christmas is coming!" is the standard reaction, and they pretty much stop borrowing books from mid-November, because they're so busy. It's such a shame. It's a festival that's all about happiness and giving and charity, but to many people it's nothing but stress. Of course, it's all in the way one looks at things...

It is sad when people get themselves really stressed over Christmas. Even working in retail for several years never put me off though, despite some appalling behavior of frantic shoppers. You're right, it is how you look at it, if you let yourself get worked up about it it will be horrible and stressful. then again I don't have to cater for hordes of relatives I don't like, like some people do. I might get stressed if that was the case.
