I fear that they would do no good. I had long trousers on, but that didn't stop several of them biting my bum :-(

Ouch, I've had similar in the past (when cycling in Oxford of all things) the swelling got so bad I stoped at the GP's on the way home and got them to look at it so you may do well to contact your local one too.

Mind you I didn't know what they sodding things loked like before we'd been to Germany the summer before, there at least though they'd had the decency to be huge and thus noticeable, slow to bite and easily waved away!

I think I'm going to stop in at the walk in centre on the way to work tomorrow as the swelling is still getting worse :-(

Where on earth do horseflies come from in Gillingham? You must be truly delicious if they are making special journeys to eat you!

There is a lot of green round here. It looks like a very built-up area, but most houses have at least 70' back gardens and there's a nature reserve and fields less than a mile away. I do seem to be particularly attractive to biting things though, mozzies, midges, flea,s you name it, I'll be covered from head to toe in bites and Bacchus will have 1 or 2.

Horse flies are the invention of the devil, and should be made to read bad fanfic all their lives as a punishment.

I'd settle for squishing them :-)

Or actually, squishing them and then making them read bad fanfic in hell, for all eternity :-D
