How long do you suppose it will take for these people to actually be able to defend themselves? Merely learning the swordsmanship will not be enough.

If we never start for fear of the time it will take, it will never be enough.

At the town meeting, I talked a bit about organizing some kind of training camp. Glad to hear that someone else a little more teacherly-sounding had the same idea.

[A broken Slayer isn't much of an instructor, after all.]

There are still limits to what I can teach. If you've other skills, they would be valuable.

[Because the idea of having lives riding on his teaching abilities alone isn't pleasant.]

I do have some other skills, and a little bit of teaching experience. Just a teensy bit, though--[she hesitates. Buffy initiates a filter...after the reaction from a few choice people about her bold investigation move earlier in the day, she wants to avoid any more cautionary words.]

I'd love to be involved, if you'll have me. I've got experience in hand-to-hand--a couple of martial arts, and with a hodge-podge of weapons.

There are more who need to learn than I can manage on my own, though I do not know if they will show interest. At the least, I will contact you if anything comes of this.

Would you be willing to offer further training to someone who already knows basic swordsmanship?

If the styles are compatible. My knowledge is in shortswords and shields.

My training was with a rapier, so that might be too different from the style you are used to.

[He needs a moment to consider it. That... No. The techniques are too different. Sigmund knows brute force, not parrying and footwork. Almost apologetically-] I have no skill in that style. If you wish to learn another, you would still be welcome.

Never seen as many swords in me life as I've seen here. Awful queer.

[He just... stares at the journal. Yes? And? Why does he need to be told this? Is this an attempt to start a conversation? What does he do with this? Just... stare. Eventually-]

They are not an uncommon weapon.

I olden days, maybe. Gotta say I 'ppreciate it, though. Nothin' quite like a good knife kill. Ain't the same as a sword, I 'magine. But it works.

If you know about "knife kills," I don't think you are my intended audience.

Ah, I do recognize your name! You must know Empress Svala, right? She was asking for you when she first arrived.

Swordsmanship, huh? How's the offer looking so far?

We've been reunited, yes. Interest is... lacking.

That's good to hear. And is it? I would have thought it to be more popular.

I will persist. [No, Sigmund, no short answers. He is going to at least try to be social, no matter how hard it is.]

... I hope Her Majesty didn't trouble you much.
