Chapter 2

“Congratulation, you got another award.” The brunette clapped with a gratifying smile, however the recipient didn’t seem to care at all. “An award for passing the hardest exam because the examiner is the examinee’s fa- ow! Hyung!”

The other leered at him. “Yah! Don’t give me that ‘hyung.’ Tsk. You passed and that means you’re one step ahead of me! What more do you want? I still haven’t kicked your butt yet.” He faked kicked the other’s ass and the younger laughed at the half-ass ministration, and then pretended to be assaulted by the elder.

“Yah! Yunho get back here!” The elder chased after the other man and Yunho made a sprint. His attempt being futile because the elder man caught up to him with ease and tackled him down to the ground, where he struggled for freedom- or just survival from getting pummeled by his hyung.

It took a few moments until they were just lying on the ground breathing heavily and Yunho spoke up. “We’ll graduate and become the best cops together, right Jae?”

Silently taken aback by the words, Jaejoong got up and pushed the other off him, earning him a faint whine from Yunho.

“Promise me, Jae. Promise? Jae? You won’t regret it right? Right right ri- “

“Aigo! Be quiet an- stop doing that!” Jaejoong scolded, prying away Yunho’s hands. He pulled onto Yunho’s cheeks and stretched his lips, which were undeniably trying to form a pout.

“Hwaunnnn pwomeeesss- Ah!” Yunho cried out once Jaejoong wrapped his arm around his neck, choking him to his demise and he apologized quickly. “I’m sorry hyung, I’m sorry!”

“You promise?” Jaejoong said more loudly and Yunho nodded in defeat. “I promise, I promise. Now please let go, Jae. I’m dying.” He choked out to prove his point but broke into laughter once he was release.

It’s a promise.

“A promise.” Jaejoong muttered under his breath, staring off at the monitor absentmindedly of Kangin inside the interrogation room and being questioned- or specifically, coaxed into spilling the truth. Junsu stared him down nonstop and if Jaejoong didn’t look closely, he wouldn’t have noticed him smirking every now and then.

“Where did you get the drug?” Junsu asked, cutting to the chase as he folded his hand together and watching Kangin’s expression as closely as any cop would. Though, he certainly didn’t have the patience like a cop either.

He slammed his hand against the table, which startled the man.

“A-at a bar.” He whispered swiftly, hoping to avert the other’s gaze, however it only intensified Junsu’s provocation.

“At midnight? For a drink? Don’t you have a life?” He tsked and saw Kangin grimace a little, but he didn’t really show it considering it was probably something he was use to hearing often. “Do you remember the name of the place?”

“D-D-Dri- Ah!” Junsu kicked the table, knocking the hard board against Kangin, who shook terribly from the violence. “Where? Speak up.”

“D-Drink In Heaven. Down the street of Seoul, Yeongdeungpo-gu!” He got pushed again but Junsu quickly released him, satisfied with his answer. Junsu didn’t want him fainting and Jaejoong was sure to stop him if he did go that far.

“How did you get the drug?”

Looking down, Kangin didn’t say much and when the silent grew too long, Jaejoong could tell Junsu was already on the verge of his patience yet again. Though, lucky for Kangin, he answered. “A man gave it to me…. He said if I really want to have fun, I should try new things than drinking so…“ He inhaled. “I took it but I didn’t know what it was and I didn’t feel any strange, just a little drowsy but that was probably because it was late.”

“And the man you met after?” Junsu asked, this time a bit more calmly since this was finally getting somewhere.

Jaejoong bit his fingernail as he witness Kangin shifting a lot more and made another attempt to say something about his friend.

“Someone called him ‘Yunho’ and he started talking to me but then I began to feel dizzy so I left before he could say anything else.” He finished, hanging his head down and looking at the wide table like something just amazingly popped up right before him. Junsu let out a breather and left the interrogation room.

Jaejoong sighed at the lack of witness and evidence to prove his former best friend had anything to do with this since he only met up with the victim and disappeared again. It was tiresome enough for the squad but Jaejoong didn’t want this information to go to waste.

Not when they have a lead.

Just when he was about to leave the monitoring room, Yoochun bumped into him, totally ignoring his boss and dancing around in circles.

“Yah! What are you doing, officer?!” Jaejoong accused, watching Yoochun freeze and turn around to notice what he had just done. He scrambled himself back to a tidy fit and saluted as if he just approached the lieutenant a second ago- though he did, but excluding the idiocy.

“Hello, Lieutenant. Park Yoochun reporting to invite his co-officers to go out drink-.” He stopped midway, finishing his sentence in a whisper and Jaejoong eyed him irritably in confusion, but an idea clicked in his head instead.

“Yoochun, do you know the bar called ‘Drink In Heaven’?” Jaejoong suggested, ignoring the way Yoochun’s eyes brighten with glee. The officer nodded frantically and Jaejoong tried to hold in the urge to just slap the other his wide forehead and tell him to do laps around the building (and streets) until he was out of breath.

“Yes, I do Lieutenant! Is it possible to invite the whole squad? I promise, it’ll be a blast!” He winked in a greasy manner and Jaejoong almost wanted to eat his words back in but held it in because at the top of his mind it was saying ‘it’s all for investigating. Just killing two birds with one stone. Right? Right.’ “Yes, you can invite everyone but they all better behave.” He smiled, however the corner of his lips were twitching to a frown and fortunately, Yoochun didn’t catch it.

“Don’t worry. I won’t let you down, boss.”

Jaejoong regretted coming to the bar.

If it was something he would despise, it was drunks and more drunks asking for more shots, especially when it was coming from his own squad members. The crew was a chaotic mess and totally un-sober. It sort of broke Jaejoong’s heart that he had to work with such idiocy, such as Hyunjoong playing with cups and Junsu with a bottle balanced on his head.

Though, if they weren’t working under him, he would have thought they came from a circus crew and arrest them once they got out of line, however, the case has been stressful and they all needed this time to get away from his nagging.

Even he was tired of his own nagging.

He took a sip of his drink- a tiny sip because he didn’t feel like getting drunk that night and he had a feeling he would be the one driving everyone home tonight.

It wasn’t long when he found most of his squad lying around unconscious and he saw someone lumping them all aside, which he would assume was the bartender. Though what caught his small eyes the most was someone wearing a beanie and suspicious coat and then the bartender fell.

It took a moment for Jaejoong to register what just happened as he hurried to the bartender and checked for his pulse.

He was still breathing.

Moving the bartender around, he checked for anything suspicious on him until he heard the entrance door slamming shut, catching his attention swiftly. “Yoochun, check if he’s ok!” Jaejoong ordered, pulling Yoochun to the ground next to the bartender even though he was still protesting.

Jaejoong sprinted out the door, chasing after the coated man when he spotted him turning a corner. He took out his gun and aimed right on his head.

“Stop!” He shouted, turning corner after corner. Just enough to make him dizzy and forget where the hell the bar was even located anymore. They were deep in the alleyway and Jaejoong felt the alcohol well up in his stomach as he tried hard not to stop and throw it back out- or ratherlose his chance to catch the culprit.

Halting at a corner, the runaway was finally cornered and Jaejoong aimed his gun at him mercilessly. “Put your hands up.” He ordered and the man did just that. “Turn around.”

He commanded, however he didn’t expect the person to obey.

Although it was even more shocking that he knew exactly who it was.

Jung Yunho.

“So it was you? you’re the murderer, Jung?” He uttered, disbelief overshadowing his face and he saw Yunho’s turn to a motion of shock and fear.

“Jae? W-what are you talking abo- “

“Don’t call me that!” Don’t call me like you use to know me. Jaejoong argued in his head, oblivious to the other man’s growing concerns. “You distributed the drug, talk your victims into committing a crime and then get rid of them. Simple tactics and your hands don’t have to get dirty at all.”

Yunho gaped, not really knowing what to do as he slowly took a step forward and watch his friend fiddle with the trigger.

“Jae! Why would I kill all these people for when they don’t benefit me?”

’Don’t fall for it. He’s just trying to deceive you. Even if he was… my old friend.’ “How do I know you’re not lying?” Cautiously, he swallowed, his gun still pointing at the other man and he hope he wouldn’t have to pull the trigger on him.

“Ah, so you’re saying our friendship was for nothing and you’re choosing the police principals over it?” He tsked and Jaejoong aimed his gun towards the other’s head, Yunho breathed. “I can’t blame you though because you haven’t changed on bit from ten years ago.”

Indeed, Jaejoong hasn’t changed one bit. Be it ten years, fifteen or a thousand years, the man would be the same regardless.

He only wanted to change things.

Not himself.

“So what if I’m the same? You haven’t changed much because you’re still a sneaky cunning asshole, whose always pulling pranks except you’ve leveled up to ’criminal mode’.” Jaejoong argued, even if he hasn’t changed- one glance at his old friend told him otherwise and he could tell he wasn’t the only one.

Smiling, Yunho laughed. “Well at least you remember something and that’s a relief, but- “ He paused, his smile fading little by little as he watch Jaejoong still struggling with the gun in his hand. “I didn’t do it Jae and I still need to find the culprit who framed me. I can’t let you catch me yet.”

He bolted.

Jung fucking Yunho bolted down the street and Jaejoong took aim with his gun more sternly, his finger already pulling the trigger.

And he missed.

He missed his target and hit the side of the building instead, watching his old friend turned a corner, disappearing from his sight before he could shoot again.

He fucking missed.

Missed his target.

And he fucking missed his friend.

- ->

Grimacing, Jaejoong head back to the bar to pick up the rest of his squad because he knew if he wasn’t there to hold all of their hands, they’d probably slice each other’s throats by now. Even though they all didn’t look viciously the type to do so. Yoochun was probably the worst when he was drunk.

Slowly, the lieutenant found his way back to the bar and just when he was about to enter the parking lot, something fell a few feet away from him and he looked up, surprised to see another object falling from the sky.

He yelped, watching the large object crash into the bar’s advertisement sign and rolling over to the pavement. When Jaejoong came closer to get a good look, he notice it was a person instead and squinted his eyes until he realize who the body belonged to.

It was Kim Heechul.

And he was dead.

A/N: Not as great, but there’s the beginning of something new and pretty much where I’ll stop leeching off ideas from the kdrama. Though there still might be some later on. Just gonna go make it my way afterwards. xD kekekeke~
