I may go through two or three longhand iterations of a piece of writing before it goes to the screen. Of course, my pieces of writing run shorter, as do my hands. :D

You're in good company -- Neil Gaiman does the same.

ME, I really can't write longhand effectively at all -- I compose ideas much better on screen. But my writing (such as it is) is a very different sort of thing.
