Suzaku blinks, his vision re-focusing. The endless green becomes hair, and a face appears: feline eyes and an unimpressed expression. “Ah, C.C….”
C.C. is looming over him, hair dripping onto his chin. She’s so close to him that her eyes look disproportionately big. “Our esteemed emperor wishes to have a word with you,” she says, drawing back slightly. “Apparently, it’s important.”
It’s never flat-out important. It’s always “apparently” or “rumor has it.” According to the grapevine. Suzaku smiles. “Okay,” he says, “I’ll be up in a minute ( ... )

After the sword has been taken away, after they are alone, Euphemia presses a kiss to each of Suzaku's eyelids. And when he opens his eyes, the world has not changed. He supresses the pit that is creeping up his throat, and Euphemia takes his hand. Suzaku thinks, at that moment, that maybe he could really be friends with her, this princess.
(And later, much later, he will watch Euphemia lay in the green, green grass and thinks that he could fall in love with her; he will never realize that he already has, not until she is gone and her dress is stained with blood.)

Even those he's an abhorrent person, you have to sympathize that he's always suffocated by people's thoughts. It makes sense why he's so obsessed with C.C.

“Are you okay?” Lelouch asks, withdrawing his hand. He tilts his head to the side, and the shadows wobble on his face. Gray on his cheeks, black on his mouth. Suzaku shivers.
Suzaku doesn’t say anything, so, finally, Lelouch sighs and shifts, the shadows scattering and says, “I guess that’s a stupid question.” He gives a small self-deprecating chuckle.
“Did…” Suzaku trails off and stares at the wall; he can’t look in Lelouch’s eyes when he asks this. “Did I say something?”
“Yes, you…called out for Euphemia.”
Suzaku swallows. That is what he feared. The worst part is that this Lelouch wants to talk about it. He wants to piece together Suzaku’s grief and explain to him that it’s not his fault. He couldn’t have anticipated it. Couldn’t have known.
And sometimes Suzaku just wants to shout at him that it’s his fault. It’s all Lelouch’s fault. It’s Lelouch’s fault ( ... )
