You go girl! I thought of you yesterday. I was walking around the venice beach boardwalk.
Let yourself pursue singing. It is scarier to try to decide what to do than to just do something with it, it doesn't even matter what. It doesn't matter how good you are, as long as you honestly address yourself in singing. And if you care, taking the chance to do anything with it is more rewarding by far than doing nothing. It will lead you in new directions.
Do it. You've written before about how much you miss singing. Whether you can continue your lessons, or have to reduce them in frequency, can be decided later, right? Does it have to be all or nothing?
Of course you're out of shape; you haven't sung in a while and that is what happens. That is what lessons will help with.
No one understands better than a teacher how you can fall out of practice, how life and finances get in the way of lessons. Don't freak out about it. You are where you are, and the Mannion will help you get back to where you want to be.
Singing is balm for the soul. Don't see these sessions as penance and punishment for having missed them these last two years. Look at them as a way to be kind to yourself and feed yourself what you need.
Lessons always make me feel better, even if I have a lot of work to do. Especially if I have a lot of work to do, actually, because they help pin down the specifics I can focus on. It's not all flaily "I'M TOTAL FAIL AND MY VOICE IS HOPELESS" anymore; it's "Here's what I can do right now to make myself better."
Great great great! I've recently realized how much I miss singing as well. I'm proud that you're jumping back in, 'cause it takes a lot to get back after a long hiatus. Overcoming the lack of momentum is the hardest part--have fun!
