Chapter 1: Pi dayo!

It was a cold November night when he first saw him.

People in the streets of Tokyo were running into different directions, hurrying up to catch the bus or simply looking for a place where they could stay just until the rain stops. The people waiting in line for the bus suddenly started pushing the ones up front when the bus arrived and it caused quite a ruckus that added to the bad atmosphere that everyone felt that night. The streets of Tokyo continued to shine with its brilliant lights under all the rain, but for the young man quietly drinking his cup of hot chocolate inside Starbucks thought that it was a pretty chaotic sight as he gaze at all the commotion outside.

"Ahhh! This type of weather really pisses me off!”

The young man blinked and turned his gaze at the other man sitting opposite him. “I’m afraid I can’t agree with that,” he replied as he took another sip from his cup.

The other man grinned and gently ruffled the younger man’s hair. “I’m not asking you to agree with me, baka.”

“Anou, Massu…?” The younger man started as the rain outside continued to pour harder into the chaotic streets of Tokyo. Opposite him, the man he called Massu smiled and set down his coffee to listen to him.

"Do you…Err… Are you really leaving tonight?”

"Tegoshi, we’ve talked about this already, right? I’ll take the shinkansen tonight to go back and help Okaasan. Besides, I know you can live here on your own now. Don’t worry, we’ll visit you sometime.”

Tegoshi sighed heavily at his cousin’s reply, his gaze settling on the heavy downpour outside. “You’ll leave in this weather?” He asked again without turning back to Massu.

“It’ll get better… Ja, I’ll go now.” Massu said as he finished his cup and began to put on his jacket.

Tegoshi finished his own cup and began to fix himself as well. “Ja, I’ll go and see you off.”

Massu turned back to him, his brow raised in amazement. “In this weather?”

"It’ll get better." Tegoshi replied with a grin.

------

Contrary to what the two young men have said, the rain didn’t get any better. The only consolation was that it didn’t get worse either. People are still running around as they search for vacant taxis or for anyone who cares enough to stop and give them a ride back home.

Amidst the heavy downpour in the streets teeming with people who got stuck in the rain, Tegoshi silently walks back to his apartment, thankful that he had brought his umbrella with him. He flinched as the sound of thunder broke into the air. It was closely followed by the split-second appearance of lightning somewhere in the east of Tokyo and Tegoshi’s pace immediately increased. As he neared his apartment, he released a sigh of relief only to stop dead on his tracks as another bolt of lightning appeared.

“What was that?” he muttered as he turned to the garbage bags in the corner. The lightning had taken his breath away but then in the split-second flash of brightness, he saw something in that mountain of garbage that somehow made his heart skip a beat.

"Wha-what on earth?!” Tegoshi mumbled almost incoherently, tossing his umbrella to the side and kneeling down to take a closer look. What’s this man doing here? he thought desperately as he grabbed the man’s wrist, trying to feel his pulse.

"Ahhh~ Doushio?!?!”

------

The numbers displayed on the digital clock on the counter seemed to glow as Tegoshi stared at it. He had been staring at it for quite sometime now and yet, the weather’s condition outside remained the same. It’s as if fate had made him a prisoner in his own apartment. Not that he actually likes to go somewhere in the dead of the night, but staying even in his own sanctuary with a complete stranger gives him the chills.

The digital clock now reads 1:36 a.m. and Tegoshi’s eyes slowly gave him up. Keeping his eyes open now seems to be a harder task, but just as he started to drift into the dream world, the man lying on his couch moved, slowly gaining consciousness from his long hours of sleep.

The man groaned and tried to adjust his big body on the small couch as the wide-eyed Tegoshi sat rigidly on the floor. His breathing seemed to stop as the man finally turned his face and their gazes met for the first time. The boy slumped on the floor resumed his breathing after a whole minute when the man finally turned his gaze away to sit up.

"Ahhh! You…You still can’t!!!” Tegoshi called as he hurriedly stood up and helped the man to sit up, wincing as he saw the bruises on the man’s arm. He bit his lip as wondered who did this to this man for he saw the other bruises on the man’s body as well when he took him in earlier.

"Arigatou, anou…?” The man weakly said when he finally regained his breath after moving so much with his whole body aching like hell.

"Tegoshi. Tegoshi Yuya desu!”

The man let out a small smile despite the pain he’s feeling and Tegoshi couldn’t help but blush a little in return. “Arigatou, Tegoshi-kun.”

The silence that followed was deafening. The man had closed his eyes again, his brows meeting as if he’s trying to remember something. Tegoshi on the other hand, sat beside him, gaping at the mysterious stranger and yet, trying not to stare too much but finding it hard to accomplish for this stranger has already cast a spell on him the moment their eyes first met.

"Anou… Tegoshi-kun?” The man started, waking Tegoshi from his thoughts.

"Ah-hai??”

The man bit his lower lip hard, his eyes still shut as he tried to answer the questions filling up his mind. “Where am I?”

“You’re here at my apartment. And don’t worry, you’re still in Tokyo.” Tegoshi answered, leaning closer and frowning as he noticed that the man had bit his lip too hard that he can already see the blood coming from it. “Your lips are bleeding,” he added.

"Why am I here?” the man asked again as if he never heard Tegoshi.

"Ehh? Anou… I found you lying outside in the rain and I… I just couldn’t leave you there in this weather with all those bruises…” Tegoshi trailed off nervously, wondering why he’s nervous when he shouldn’t be nervous at all.

When the man didn’t reply any further, Tegoshi made a move to stand but he stopped immediately when something clicked in his brain. “Anou... Onamae wa...?”

At this question, the man finally lifted his gaze to look at Tegoshi. The boy had expected a smiling face to greet him but instead, the man had an unreadable expression plastered on his face. It was cool and yet, disturbing in a way that no one knows what he thinks or feels with that unreadable mask on.

"Doushita?” Tegoshi asked after awhile.

“I…” the man started. Tegoshi smiled and moved closer, trying to be friendly so that the man would feel at ease with him. “Hnnn?” Tegoshi prodded on as he gaze at the man’s black orbs that’s filled with swimming emotions and yet, not really revealing any emotions at all.

"I don’t know.”

Tegoshi blinked and stared at the stranger beside him for a moment. A minute had passed when Tegoshi finally recovered, smiling more sweetly this time as he asks the mysterious stranger with his equally mysterious black orbs one more time.

"Okay, Mr.I-don’t-know… What’s your real name?”

------

The young man thought this would somehow lift the heavy atmosphere between them but the man didn’t even smile at his joke. Instead, the man sighed and buried his face in his palms. Tegoshi cursed himself for his stupidity as he tried to think of something more to say to change the weird atmosphere that seemed to suffocate him now.

“Tegoshi-kun… Ore…”

"Hai?”

"Ore dare…?”

Tegoshi’s eyes grew wide at this as he saw that the man was serious about not knowing his name. The young man had been drawn to this stranger the moment their eyes first met but he’s been drawn to him  even more now that he had bared himself to Tegoshi. Without even noticing it himself, Tegoshi lifter his hand and cupped the man’s face, wiping off the stream of tears falling from those wonderful black orbs. He wanted to do something to stop those tears but he knew then that whatever he says or do won’t stop those tears from coming.

“I don’t know who I am… I don’t know where I’m from… I don’t know my age nor my blood type nor… Tegoshi-kun, I can’t remember anything.” The man said as he looks at the young man in front of him who had been so good to take him in and treat his wounds. He felt foolish for crying and he really didn’t want this man to feel sorry for him but he couldn’t stop the tears from falling. It came naturally as he realize that he’s nothing but an empty shell right now… Just like a lost puppy in the crowd. His case is a lot worse though.

"Wakatta…” Tegoshi said, detaching himself from the other man. He stood up and went to his bedroom, returning shortly with a pillow and a futon. The man threw him a confused look as he placed the futon on the empty space near the couch, dropping the pillow he had brought with him in it.

“What…?”

"Is this fine? I know that bed is better demo… I couldn’t sleep in a bed with someone I don’t know. My cousin used to live here with me and we sleep together in my room but… Well, that’s because he’s my cou- “

“Tegoshi-kun,” the man interrupted the boy whose speech seems to have been prepared ages ago. “What’s going on?”

The young man blushed and bowed his head as the stranger’s gaze fixed on him. Tegoshi could feel the man’s intent gaze and thought that if thisman will have the chance to have his memory back by sunrise; Tegoshi would have been completely melted already.

"Tegoshi-kun?” the man prodded.

"I’m… Taking you in… That is, if you don’t mind. My cousin just left me so I don’t really mind having you here just until your memory comes back. I’m sure it won’t take that long for you to regain your memory.” Tegoshi explained, his head still bowed low.

“Ehhh? Hontou?!?!”

"Un! I don’t think you’re a bad guy anyway…”

The man stood up despite the aching of his muscles and clasped his hands on the boy’s shoulders, still dazed that the young man was actually helping him this much. “Hontou ni… Ii desu ka?”

Tegoshi stuttered, blushing even more as he raised his gaze to meet the other man’s addicting ones. “Ha-hai…”

A huge smile slowly spread on the man’s lips for the first time as Tegoshi wished for some signs next time the man smiles like that for he’s sure that if the man kept on doing that smile so randomly, he would surely melt and be absorbed into the air.

"Arigatou, Tegoshi-kun!”

Tegoshi smiled shyly, absentmindedly placing his hand on the man’s hand on his shoulder. “Pinku~”

“Ehh?”

“That’ll be your name for now,” Tegoshi announced, grinning widely as the other man seemed to deflate at the name he chose.

“N-nande PINKu?!?”

The other side of this mysterious stranger was slowly making itself known to Tegoshi and the younger man couldn’t help but laugh at this dorky side of that man. “It’s because your shirt is pink…I don’t want to think anymore so I’ll call you that from now on…”

The man chuckled at his explanation and Tegoshi felt happy that this wonderful, mysterious stranger is now opening up to him. “Yada,” the man said, sitting down again to rest his leg muscles.

“Ehhhh~~ Ja, nani?”

The man smiled as Tegoshi’s lips pout a little in anticipation for his answer.

“Pi dayo~”
