don't close your eyes

- I'm not surprised that LJ finally caved to the extremely sketchy and vague laws about child pornography and the definition of obscenity. Trolls have been waving those around for YEARS -- fandom-scruples is the only one whose name I can remember now, but I know there have been others -- and honestly, all I can think is what took them so long?- I'm going to ( Read more... )

Haha, it's not going to be deleted forever. I was thinking about posting the fics to a website and then leaving the old entry open for reviews -- I don't think LJ could suspend me for linking to disallowed content offsite. Uh, hopefully? :D

I'm actually not going to lock anything at all. I've made a decision not to write anything that has pedophilic overtones. If some of my characters are underaged together and are having the Smex, then I will host those on a separate site. Like fanfiction.net.

I mean. I've been accessing adult material since I was 11. It's not that hard to break into. I have this disclaimer on my profile page and on my front page somewhere: there are posts with explicit material. The author is not responsible for underage readers. Please heed the ratings and age of consent for your region. I was thinking about doing more and decided not to be the parent for every one of the people who come upon my journal.

I might actually sound like I'm disagreeing with your unpopular fandom opinion, but I actually do agree with it. I'm just feeling super-weary of the whole situation and it might come across as apathy.

I agree with this point too: don't think leaving for a new journal system will accomplish much, and all what you've written after ( ... )

I agree with your agreement with my unpopular fandom opinion! :D It sounds like what I'm thinking of doing, namely hosting my fics somewhere else while using LJ to network for them. I don't know what LJ's policy is on linking to offsite objectionable content. If they really tried, I'm sure they could find a reason to suspend me for that, not that they really need one (they're their servers, they could suspend me for farting and it would still be 100% legal).

Now that I'm thinking a little, I am wondering if I should really do an age-statement thing for all my fics. But they are posted to communities with links back to my lj. Does that mean I should lock everything down and add everyone that has added me back as a friend? I dunno. But still not locking. The principle behind age-disclaimers has always eluded me. I mean, seriously, if someone headed a post or comment with, "Disclaimer: this may offend you," I would hesitate about two seconds (if that) before reading. I don't think anyone really assumes some curious twelve-year-old ( ... )
