The holiday is over. I spent the weekend in other people's cemeteries, and I can say we done good! The local Catholic cemetery was all mowed, for a change, but they have a company come in and do it, and they pay no attention to things like flat makers. We make sure to whip around them, cutting back the grass that inevitably creeps up and covers ( Read more... )

a lot over Memorial Day weekend and before, seeing the changes in our own little town graveyard. There it is a volunteer crew, and over the early spring they let the daisies grow. It was lovely and wild. But I knew they'd cut everything by Memorial Day, and they did.
Now little flowers are creeping back.
I think you'd find this graveyard fun to look at, but from a professional's viewpoint something of a nightmare (for the very reasons I love it, the random hodgepodge of memorials and stones and plants and trees).

Some days I just hate to cut the wild flowers. Even the grass sometimes loos so beautiful as it waves in the distance. But cut it must be.... and yet it comes back.. New crops of clover and mouse ears and speedwell keep showing up... Oh and grass... there is grass in there somewhere. lol
