I was listening to NPR this afternoon, and the host was talking to someone over the phone. Apparently the guest had his phone on speakerphone, because you got that echoy far away sound, and also he was either on the other side of the world, where it was night, doing the interview outside, or he has some kind of animal the eats crickets in the room ( Read more... )

You know, I've noticed the crickets seem to be unusually active this year. Even midday, you can hear them singing away like it's twilight out.

Right now, there is a symphony of crickets chirping outside. I've seen a lot of them at the cemetery, but I usually do while mowing or whipping. We've also had tons of earwigs (pincer bugs) this year. I think they are what are eating my mums to death. As soon as they bloom, they get munched.
