Gads, I'd never be able to chronicle my entire apple-free computer history... mostly because I've always just kinda thrown something together since the mid 90s... My first computer though was when I was 8 in 1982... it was Vic-20, which sucked more than yours. It had only 2k of ram - it was bad even for its day! Then a coleco ADAM (which actually were pretty good, despite bad press), then a TI-99/4A (first 16 bit home computer!!), then a Tandy 1000HX (IBM almost-compatible... it ran MOST stuff, but had no hardware compatibility). After that, an IBM PS/2 Model 30, then a homebuilt 286-12 overclocked to 16, then a 386DX-16 built using discarded NASA parts (HUGE freakin Unisys server mainboard), then an AMD 386SX-33, TI 486DLC-40 (got stolen), AMD 386DX-40 (awesome and rock solid, most reliable PC I've ever owned), AMD 5x86-133pr75 (pentium clone, actually a beefed up 486), Intel P166MMX (the last Intel system I ever ran excepting my laptop which I didn't buy new), then Cyrix 686 (forget the mhz), AMD K6-2 300 (overclocked to 392!!!), ( ... )

Oh... the part I forgot to mention ... On the 386 systems I typically ran Desqview/386 or Desqview/X on top of DOS to provide multitasking, even into the windows days. As soon as OS/2 Warp came on the market, I snatched it up and used it until sometime in 97, when I finally gave in and went to Windows. Around 2001-2003 I attempted to use Linux exclusively, but gave up in a fit of rage when the word processor I was using decided to crash *while saving the file* and an entire 10 page research paper since it trashed the file. What made me mad was that it was a "known issue" when I reported it, and therefore marked invalid. The fix? Upgrade to the "CVS" development version. Which would have required upgrading a dozen other things in my OS, and for me to recompile the word processor on my own. No fix was backported to any actually usable versions. That's the last time I seriously even tried to use Linux. My dad has tried to get me to use it since (I converted him!), but every time he tries to install it on my computer, something goes ( ... )

Aww pity. Us Apple users share a kind of brother/sisterhood with Linux users. :)

I noticed how quite separate the UK and US were in the early 80's for computers. In the early 80's we had all our own brands which were really quite good such as Spectrum, Commodor and Acorn. The only US computer really known about here was the Apple and maybe a few knew about IBM. Was not until late 80's that the British ccompanies sadtly started fading out and we started getting similar computers to you.

I would say the palm counts. :)
