Wow, I very much enjoyed reading your responses. Thank you.

And no matter what you do, I think you pretty much spend the years from about 15 to 30 screwing up a lot of things while learning how to be a civilized human being.

It's actually somewhat reassuring to know that all the screwing up I've been doing is not unexpected. :o) It's weird, though, to imagine the important events, phases, and people in my life that I simply haven't reached yet. Will the person I become in fifteen year's time look back at this comment, shake his head, and mutter, "If he only knew?" (Permit me the conceit of believing that by 2020 we will artificially intelligent digital assistants who will tease us by dredging up such nuggets from the past.)
