Yeah, it's dreck, totally and completely, and the racefail was just the poop cherry on top of the shit sundae. Also the acting was just so bad. Katara especially.

On the pronunciations, it was so weird. I saw an interview with M.Night, saying that he made it a point to correct the show's mistakes when it came to the character names and that it was important to him because he is Asian.

Gods, yes, the acting. Whhhyyyy. And then "Well, we chose white actors because they were the best choice for the job." Bullshit. I call it.

Again, no respect for the original source material. Also, if your Asian is so important to you then why didn't you cast Asian people in the correct roles?.

If he were in front of me right now, I would smack him for that.

I haven't seen the movie, but I wanted to the first trailer I saw - until I saw M. Night's name attached to it. Here's proof of what a huge, huge fucktard he is:

M. Night Shyamalan commented on the issues regarding fans' perceptive of the casting in an interview with Washington Post columnist Jen Chaney, saying, "Anime is based on ambiguous facial features.

*pops over to the wiki article for Avatar the series*

Avatar: The Last Airbender (also known in Europe as Avatar: The Legend of Aang) is an American animated television series that -

*gets out the spiked gauntlet, puts it on and bitchslaps M. Night back to India* (how I wish...) Seriously, what a moron, "animated = anime". UGH.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF WHAT. Again. no understanding of the original source material. He didn't even know it was American made?

Also, okay, ambiguous facial features =/= ambiguous skin color.

Also, why populate the Southern Water Tribe with people of color except for your two white leads and their white grandmother?. I mean, how hard would it have been, if he just had to have white leads--he honestly believed these people were the best actors he could get? How the fuck was running casting on this movie anyway--to cast a diversity of people in the Southern Water Tribe? It still wouldn't have been canon compliant, and still would have been racebending, but at least it wouldn't have made his choice in leads so freaking obviously stupid.
