I've had an article published in a journal, and am revising something this summer that is to go in a festschrift collection to honor my PhD advisor. But I rather doubt either one is going to shake even my subfield, much less the world at large.

I wish you luck in helping endangered species!

I can't think of much. I'd like a teaching award, maybe. Or ... oh, I thought of one thing, but it might be considered ignoble by some. It would really be an ends/means thing.

Or even just have people remember the current big project as important?

A teaching award is good! I have to say that even if I never write anything memorable, I will feel pleased to think that I've taught well, maybe even inspired a handful of students. That's worth doing, too.
