Errand-y day

Usual work-up-the-list and then grocery shopping, plus the liquor store. Went to the mall (!!!) with SO -- he needed to have his computer looked at and the Apple store is there. We also looked at new cell phones (not the iPhone, though, as it's not compatible with our service). Stopped to pick up some shoes SO had reheeled, got a take-and-bake ( Read more... )

Another Country's an interesting movie, hm? I watched it while still in college, and I didn't really get the frame story. But then I was in London for graduate school in the mid 1990s and discovered that the former director of my school, the art history branch of the University of London, was one of the the Cambridge Five. It was odd the way his story was fairly well-known--whether generally or just by art historians and their friends, I'm not sure--and yet he was still very much a part of the recent history of the school and very widely respected as an architectural historian. Folks drew a very firm line between his espionage and his life as an academic. I didn't know what to make of it. In any case, it totally changed the meaning of the movie for me. Someone recently mentioned a remake is planned with a new generation of beautiful young men. M.
