The Powerball interstate lottery in the U.S. currently has an estimated jackpot of $700 million (paid over 20 years; the immediate cash amount is about $428 million; in either case before taxes

That's an interesting question :D I don't play the lottery (our lottery tickets are a great deal more than $2, so quite a big waste if nothing comes of it

I hear you; I was in school with only 1 year off from age 5 to age 29, and then went back for 2 more years later. And most of my working life has been in libraries or as an instructor!
awesome! i did have one year off between high school and university, but i spent that year living abroad and learning another language. XD my current job is in the student guidance office at uni, and i'm looking for and applying to similar jobs. heh. i guess there are some things in life that are meant to be. :D
I too bought a ticket, although I've been trying to check the numbers and the Florida lottery site keeps not coming up.
I'd definitely quite my job and both of us would retire. Pay off our house, siblings houses, and I would donate a lot too.
I'd get bored off my rump if I had nothing to do, so I think I'll take your direction and go to school too :) I also thought I'd build a house for homeless gay teens, who've been chucked out to their own element. A safe positive place for them to finish out their childhood.
Side note: we got your Christmas card - and were quite thrilled to see it. Wolfie even made the Balsamic Green Beans for dinner that night. With his mum still in rehab we didn't do much for the holiday this year. Thank you so much for thanking of us again. Much love and hugs
Buy a bigger house in the same neighborhood, in addition to paying off the one we live in. I'm not sure I'd retire outright, because I'd probably just vegetate then, but would plan to retire once the kids were both in college in hopes of being able to travel as much as I want. (I'd want to volunteer part time after that, though -- probably in one of the city's public school that I have personal attachment to.) For now, I'd see if I could go part-time, maybe 4 days/week, ideally taking the whole summer off (not very doable in my job, but hey, one can dream). Set money aside for college for the kids, donate a bunch to their old elementary school and my old high school. Buy some properties in my favorite locations to visit -- a nice apartment in Prague, a cottage in rural France somewhere (Alsace, maybe?), a condo in Hawaii.
Well, I would definitely want to buy something in York (England), although not necessarily live there year-round (a bit far from family). SO would be delighted to live in Europe at least part-time though. Somewhere on one of the coasts here perhaps, New England or Oregon/Washington, would be lovely.
I'd pay off all of my remaining debt, set aside a good chunk for Bean's college/trade school tuition, and go to Great Britain for a leisurely tour of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Heck, I'll probably take a leisurely tour of Ireland while I'm at it. Living in Europe or Canada permanently has some allure at the moment, considering the political climate here.

Yep. Some things have been getting better (e.g. gay marriage) but a lot of things are on pretty scary paths (gun proliferation, attacks on women's rights, many more).
